Thindray's Journal, 14 April 2009

Today is Day 9/Phase 1. I feel great and... "drumroll please" I have lost 9 pounds. I am so excited and proud of myself for sticking to the diet 99% (I have to admit to a having a handful of almonds one day).

I worked out 5 days (in a 7 day period) and the times ranged from 30 minutes to 1 hour (okay, just 1 day was an hour...LOL). My exercise of choice is power walking (I prefer to walk outside if I can but I also have a treadmill). I took the advice of one of our FS family members and I started interval training. So, I walk some and then run as fast as I can (which is not very fast..LOL) and then walk. I alternate that. I eventually got up to running more than walking. On the treadmill I make sure I do various levels of speed and inclines. I am also doing some abs work (need that). I haven't measured the old waistline yet to see how many inches I have lost.

I don't know about anyone else who moved to Phase II but I find Phase I very comfortable. I'm almost "afraid" to go to Phase II. But, I know this is not about a diet but a lifestyle change so I have to be able to still loose, even on other phases (kick up the exercises right). Starting tomorrow I will start to introduce fish and chicken in to my diet but will keep with the fruits and veggies. Did I tell you that I MISS french fries?

The Detox phase has shown me that I can do without the red meat. I grew rather fond of tofu and I LOVE beans so I think I'll be okay with getting the nutrients my body will miss from the red meat. To make sure I'm adding in a multivitamin.

Thanks everyone for your encouragement, ideas, recipes and tips. They really are helpful and I know it's what helped me to make it through Phase I.

Phase II...here I come. Keep SMASHING!!!

Good for you. You are doing great. Keep it up. I am treadmill envious. I walk outside too and interval train when its not snow and icy outside. Hope to get the start of a warm up trend here. Keep smashing!

Do you like sweet potatoes? If so, peel and thinly slice them or even cut into sticks. Bake in oven, put a little salt, no too much if you need to. If you want a sweeter taste, I have sprinkled a packet of splenda and cinnamon on the chips. No they aren't french fries exactly, but I have actually grown to love them. Mom says she found french cut sweet potatoes in Walmart frozen food section. She bakes them in the oven when she feels she needs the fries. Also, this is my second time on FatSmash. Did it to lose weight prior to having my second child in 2006. Lost 40 pounds then decided to get pregnant. I have been on WW this year, but eating FatSmash foods along side my parents to help them. We are on day 4 of Detox. What I did the first time around was a tip a friend who was also on the diet gave me, we did meatless "T-days" meaning in Phases II and III we ate Phase I foods every Tuesday and Thursday. Seemed to help. I lost the 40 pounds pretty fast and maintained it off even til towards the end of pregnancy when cravings took over, but I didn't gain near what I did with my first child. Unfortunatetly after he was born, should have gone back to eating that way, but instead didn't so here I am this year.

Thindray good job on kicking up the exercise and doing it 5 days out of 7. keep it up and it will become a habit and then you will feel you want to do it everyday. Also, good choice on the food change. I need to add more fish in my diet, we eat alot of chicken (mostly all chicken). So I think that will become one of my goals to Add fish more often, and I do love fish i just forget to choose it in the grocery isle. Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the encouragement. JCBAG97 I actually found those crinkle cut sweet potatoes and will definitely turn to them when I get my fries craving. I love the "T-days" idea and appreciate you sharing it with me. I'm going to apply it for sure. It's great to hear from someone who has had success with the FS. RDRD1003 - I agree. I can definitely seem wanting to exercise 7 days a week. It's a great release. Keep Smashing!
