Interesting 24 hour period. Walked dogs, that was great, did some stuff around house, that was great. Got in the pool around 3:30 because it was still warm outside, totally bonked and ended up quitting after 18 minutes which started off okay but got interrupted because I had no strength for long pulls, did some sprints, got 405 strokes in and stopped after I got tossed for the third time. I did stay for the bubbles. I'm totally sore this morning, upper back, so thinking that my long break may have come into play. It's fine, taking some hours away from work this week and will make sure I get some pool time in there.

In the count your blessings department, two close calls. A friend had a weird feeling about something in the middle of the night Friday, turned out that the USB Christmas lights in her daughter's room were shorting out and the transformer was hot and melting when she pulled it out of the socket. Thank God angels were watching over them and she went in there when she did.

Same day, different address, we had a sizable house fire down the street last night. All four people are okay, thought it was my neighbor's house. She is up at her cabin so that was an insane text exchange while everyone was trying to figure things out. They lost the apartment in the upstairs, but the house is mostly okay (we'll see today in daylight). Another thank God it happened early enough in the evening that everyone was awake and able to get out in time. Fire engines came from two directions, so I think that's a two alarm. Very scary. Sucks that it happened this close to Christmas, but stuff can be replaced and our neighborhood will help them out in the meantime. I'm not sharing pics because that's not the point and it feels exploitative. I took them for my friend who was away and freaking out. She did tell me that she absolutely wanted to know vs. not telling her until she got home, so I'm glad I did that. I was torn on whether to do that or not, glad I did. Edit: Old space heater caused it. why are those still legal?

As far as the numbers, it's mostly water, will go down. Blob is actually down and I'm wearing fresh jeans this morning and able to breathe. Still not sure why my performance sucked so badly, but I usually have a really great session right after one of those, so we'll see what happens. Edit: lightbulb moment. I ate a ton of ham yesterday compared to normal.

I would never leave lights plugged in when I’m not home or at night when everyone is sleeping. and when I was up at my ranch, the space heaters all got unplugged when we went to sleep. Lots of blankets— no space heaters

I'm the same way with lights and heating elements, I don't even run the dishwasher at night. I just looked at the time stamp on the fire, it was 7:19 PM.

That's too much excitement for one day! Glad everyone is ok. What a relief that is!!! How scary!!! Also sounds like you did the right thing letting your neighbor know and it's so nice to hear your neighbors all pull together! I always unplug or Christmas tree when I'm not going to be in that room as I'm always scared of that myself! At least you got some swim time in even if you weren't feeling it! Ham always causes water weight! Stay safe!

I guess I need to be more careful with those USB plugs.

Isn't it crazy when suddenly a workout is kinda sucky? It just happens sometimes. And fires are so scary!

Phew, fires are so scary!! Glad nobody got hurt. Yay for long walks with dogs!! That's what's saving me most days from absolute sedentariness.

Eva, I was texting with my very close friend last night who I miss seeing terribly. we're both convinced that we would have lost our sanity long ago if we didn't have our dogs to drag us out of the house, make us laugh and just another warm body with unconditional love to get through this. we were thinking about relaxing the rules and doing something small for NYE, but then decided against it because both of our partners have had multiple potential exposure incidents (work) and it's just not responsible. we decided that they will drop off some ingredients for paella and I will make it and they will take some home since it's not a dish you make for one or two people. then, we'll celebrate at our respective houses. sucks, but safer.

Paella?!! As a Spaniard, I love the idea of two American friends sharing a paella to reinforce their bond. Please, please, don't forget to post a photo when you make it.
