Katsolo's Journal, 21 July 2020

None of these numbers are normal, I'm going through an eczema flare like I haven't seen in years. Not sure if it's stress or environment induced, could be both. It's so ugly and itchy and all that stuff. I think my body is inflamed which is why the numbers went a little crazy the last few days. Doc was great about refills because it's been years, but everything is backordered because it's manufactured in elsewhere outside of US, so I'm getting by with generic Benadryl, OTC hydrocortisone and calamine lotion until they find some or it resolves. Today is better than yesterday. I need a few days away from the pool and I need to avoid sweating because it makes it way worse. My body just needs to calm down and normalize. Makes it hard to exercise at any meaningful level. Did some stuff with bands last night keeping the effort low and that felt good. I don't want to get into an unending cycle of stress, breakouts, weight gain that doesn't go away. Breathe well, live well, eat well, be well, repeat.

Edit for sanity and to memorialize? I was looking back at my numbers, I don't really believe that I've gained this much muscle, thinking it's more water, but the blob is down consistently over the past few weeks. I'll take a gain for a few days if it's water and muscle, I want that muscle to hold. I think the water is due to the inflammation though. Itchy, itchy makes me witchy (PG version for FS). I think I'll make some iced parsley and hibiscus tea today.

When I was young I got poison ivy and the Dr. had my mom give me Baking Soda baths twice a day in lukewarm water. It can really help the itch.

I too suffer from excema and other skin breakouts. The doc said to use Sarna Lotion... it comes in sensative skin version... can get at Walmart or Walgreens. Stops the itch on contact better than anything I've ever used. I am never without it.

I have a spray I make with baking soda and eucalyptus oil (like 1 drop) in water or green tea if I make the time. it does help with the itching.

I just looked at the sarna lotion and will try. it looks like the neutrogena anti-itch they used to sell. I'm a little beyond it at this point with the tiny blisters, but it might help prevent the next episode. thanks for the suggestion.

Sometimes I get the tiny blisters all over my legs... along with the steroids, I use the Sarna for Sensitive Skin. Works wonders. I hope you find what works for you!! I feel for you, I totally understand what you are going thru!!

OMG! Itching is the mother clucking WORST (also edited for FS). I just ended 15 days of Prednisone a couple weeks ago. I swear if there is a skin ailment- I have it. I hope you are better soon!

Thanks, all. I swam tonight because i figure it was better than walking because i don’t sweat and I’m not sharing the pool with anyone at the moment. A warning for everyone. Common prescriptions are not always in stock right now, so make sure you don’t run it if the important ones. Mine’s not critical, but friend told me he had to switch BP meds, i have to wait a couple days for elidel and it’s just weird out there.

DP, you made me laugh. There’s a cussing chicken 🐔 emoji we use as code for “mother clucker”.

CP, i used to scratch more often, but i got cellulitis one time and it was way worse than the eczema and it was on my face. Horrible. Took months to clear completely. Not worth it. I cut my nails and wear gloves now.

Praying that your eczema calms soon. I find that aveeno lotion helps with the itch, along with short, tepid showers.
