nanodoll's Journal, 29 October 2008

Yesterday, my cheating gave me an idea.

I had bought a big bar of black chocolate from my big sister who was selling them for a school fund. Instead of having 2 peaces a day, I ate the hole thing throughout the next 2 hours.. (who hasn't done that.. right?) I usually make myself believe I won't do that the next time but the fact is I probably will.

So I made a diet book (a real one, not a virtual one) and put "15lbs Christmas challenge" in the title after the challenge I recently joined. I come up with tiny projects like "happy hangman" or write down ideas, tips, rules... for people who like to draw or write allot it's kind of fun.

On the first page I wrote "Black chocolate is still chocolate--avoid buying anything at all that you can only eat in moderate portions because chances are you won't." When it isn't in my hands, it's easy to ignore..

"Happy hangman" is kind of like the opposite of hangman: Completing the drawing of the hangman is good. Every stroke is a perfect diet day (no cheating at all). When the hangman's complete I'll treat myself to something. Maybe some books or CD's. (that's a real treat for me)

Whenever I badly want to cheat I decided to do things like drink 3 consecutive bottles of water, brush my teeth with toothpaste, do 20 push ups (or 40 setups) and so on. Stuff I found here throughout the site.

As for food I made something simple that actually tastes great. Pork chops cooked with tiny chopped up tomatoes, baby carrots and mushrooms and plenty of salt...
129.2 lb Lost so far: 0.8 lb.    Still to go: 12.2 lb.    Diet followed reasonably well.

I keep a written log too and I find it useful. :) Whatever works, right!

To lose weight best I keep tempting foods completely out my place. Thankfully I don't live with anyone else. I go to friends' places and they eat dessert - "It's low fat." I said: "Yeah, but it has sugar in it." It is very difficult to follow any diet. But willpower is the key - I am nearly 70 pounds down from my highest weight. It can take a long time to see results - but if one loses a pound a week then in a year they'll lose 50 pounds and feel better than a bowl of that ice cream, which is only a temporary fix.

Good ideas to keep from getting off track! I keep a food journal and it's so helpful. If I lose weight, I can go back and see what I did (or didn't) eat that week. Vice versa if I gain. Also, at one point I was getting sick every so often and when I checked my journal, I noticed that on the days I was sick, I ate spinach so I took the spinach out of my diet and had no more problems. I bought a pretty little notebook and jot down everything I eat every day to keep track of my carbs. It really helps! :)

I love that idea. And its so creative. Good for you - you are turning that "cheating" energy into "creative" energy. How fun and motivating at the same time.
