Okay three guesses and the first two do not count. What's my weather like this morning? NIAR (LOL ... I spelled it backwards so you couldn't cheat on your guesses and read ahead!!) Yes indeed ... rained most of the night and still this morning. I am hoping the forecast still calls for dry weather this weekend but I'm afraid to go check weather.com!!

Generator will be done next week sometime. Turns out the place we used to take the generator to for service (big company) did some things they shouldn't have to our generator and we are fortunate that the engine didn't seize!!! Not being a mechanically minded woman I can't really repeat the explanation my husband gave me but suffice it to say that the 'big company' ripped us off and could have created even more disaster and the 'little guy' down the road in the boonies is fixing it up right.

Let me tell you what I've been wondering about. My doctor suggested a low dose of effexor to calm down my hot flashes. I resisted the idea for quite some time and after the last round of major hot flashes decided I would give it a try. Other than just having a general dislike for medications unless they are absolutely necessary one of my reasons for resisting the low-dose antidepressant is that they are notorious for weight gain.

So I started the effexor maybe 2 weeks ago and my hot flashes calmed down significantly. Which of course also meant I was sleeping better. However, this past week the scale appears to have been stuck. Therefore I decided to experiment and I stopped the effexor a couple days ago. Two things happened. 1. Last night I was HOT most of the night and kept waking up. 2. My scaled moved from 183.4 to 181.

I do not know if it is coincidence or related. I imagine I'll need to give it a few days to see and perhaps go back on the effexor to really give it a good trial.

My day will look like this ...
* Pilates
* Deliver some money to our mechanic friend, order some more parts, and run into town for more gasoline for the generator
* Gas up the generator and do 2 weeks worth of laundry
That will pretty much take up the whole day!! LOL!!

Today I am grateful for ...

1. realizing that the starter going out on our generator was actually a blessing because if it had continued the whole engine may have seized which would have been much more disastrous!!
2. hubby's dark cloud appears to have passed for now
3. hubby took a class this week through work and passed the test with 92%!!
4. I did not need to get up and go to work this morning.
5. Even though I have errands and chores to do I get the day to myself!!

I hope the sun is shining somewhere!!! Have a fantastic Friday. Be good to yourselves, always practicing kindness and acceptance so you can move forward in your journey with peace.

Glen - LOL about the ark reference!! No, haven't seen anyone recently but I think I'll start paying closer attention! (: Also funny that you would consider 90 too cool to swim ... I used to live in the Central Valley of California and remember all too well days of AC, temps over 100 and swimming in our pool!!

I looked up the Effexor side effects and it says 20-30% report weight gain, 20-30% report weight loss and the rest report no change. I don't think a couple of days would be long enough to make a significant change in the levels of the drugs in your system, although of course you'll have to decide what makes you comfortable. I hope you find something to help you with the hot flashes if you decide not to keep taking it though. Congrats on the loss!

Erika thanks for looking that up ... I hadn't gotten to that intelligent approach yet!! LOL!!! I do like sleep. I think I'll give it another chance!! I sure did like seeing 181 this morning though (Moose hangs her head sheepishly for being so obsessed about numbers when she encourages others not to fret!!! LOL!!!)

aaawwww... Im sorry that you are experiancing rainy weather... I honestly wish It was Raining here in CA. But its not... Personally for me I love the rain more then the High 90's! And I know this sounds really weird because im "young" But i've been getting really hot for the past 2 weeks when I try to sleep.... I hate it.... So I kinda know how u feel...Maybe you should continue taking the medicine for a month and then see the changes you will have. Hope you have a great Friday to yourself =)

Hi there, I've been on a high dose of Effexor for a few years and can confirm that the weight thing isn't just in your head. Effexor is synthesized in the liver & kidneys so the main issue is with elimination. When your liver/kidneys are busy trying to figure out what to do with that Effexror, regular elimination of toxins can fall by the wayside leading to extra weight. I've been able to manage it by eating to support those organs: dark green leafies and veggies will be your saving grace. Adding a green drink to your overall diet is an easy first step, but getting higher fiber/lower sugar foods in will also help. Less romaine & carrots. More kale & beets. :-)

kittyglitter ... thanks for the input ... very interesting as I have felt a bit 'backed up' lately if you know what I mean, LOL!! Something indeed to ponder!!!

Sure thing! It's always unusual to me that the medicines we take because our bodies need them are, in fact, often quite bad for us. I figure as long as I have to take the pills to make my brain work I should try and meet my body halfway in the rest of it's functioning. :-D

kittyglitter ... absolutely!! I'm just not sure my body needs for the hot flashes or not. However, I think I need to give it a little longer trial to see ... time will tell!!

I don't know much about that drug and I am lucky not to experience hot flashes but I would say you have to weigh the odds of how you feel, side effects of the drug and the weight. I am confident you will make the best decision for yourself. I am glad you are going to have a good day and sorry it is raining there. It is bright and sunny in London today and I did have a Cosmo last night and thought about you. Take care Carol!

I sure you would avoid any medication of any kind unless it was *absolutely* necessary as there are always side effects. Perhaps these symptoms will subside on there own? Have a great day moose!

There are so many meds that affect weight. It often seems to make you ask which is worse: weight or the symptoms. At least it's not making you gain. Maybe you and your doc can fool with the dosage? Congrats to your husband and glad you figured out the issue with the generator BEFORE it seized. LEave it to the little guy to know how to get the job done.

I take Paxil and it helped packed on the pounds for me... I think it is similar to Effexor (SSRI). However I'd be a wreck without it and here I am trying to figure out how to balance it, just like you Moose! :)

Glad to hear good news on the generator. I had a few hot flashes post first kid. sheesh, never again! (I can dream lol) Have you considered taking the pill every other day for even a lower dose? Or reading up on alternative methods? Idk, I am with the 'don't take it even if you need it' (lol) I mean only if you *REEEEEAAALLY* need it. But I may be begging for the meds when I hit that stage. God willing :)

LOL!! I'm going to tough it out for a week or so and see what happens with sleep and my beloved hot flashes. Then I'll reconsider this lovely dilemma!! The meds will still be good if/when I want to use them again.
