From371to184's Journal, 18 October 2017

Weekday walk number 25: "the Switchblade", 3.0 miles in 72 minutes, at 2.5 mph - don't know what it is... didn't think I was moving that fast (yes, I consider that "fast"). Figured out most people will look up from their smartphones - despite earbuds - and (at least) smile at my "good afternoon", if I simply raise one arm (at a safe distance) and wave. Guess they perceive it as a threat? Regardless, I'll take it.

I do find it really funny how surprised some people look when I say hello on my walks - I just think the world would be a better place if we all just tried to make eye contact, smile and say hello to those we pass along our travels everyday:) ....good for you 184

And I thought people just did that to me!! Good to hear I'm not alone. A simple greeting can get quite awkward for some reason, doesn't deter me from being friendly.

Eye contact is a lost art. Acknowledgement even more so. Glad at least you're getting some responses. Keep on rocking my friend.

That is so different than my walks. In my neighborhood everyone driving by waves at you if you are walking. And when I'm driving all the walkers wave too. I feel bad sometimes because I am so out of breath on my walks that I don't even look up when cars approach. All walkers say good morning or even stop to talk. Even people outside washing down their driveways or raking leaves will say hi or ask if I'm walking all the way down the hill.

People have no human connection anymore. It's sad. In our self absorbed society I am happy to hear I am not the only one who notices this and continues to say hello to strangers. This is why I stopped going to certain hiking spots, because people don't even smile or nod while passing on the trails. It makes bad vibes for me, kills the hike.

@Tbaygirl - yes, eye contact is a must in western culture (or it USED to be). @Ryan311 - normal's boring, be weird... awkward or not! thank you @jeannieselby! @davisrick1 - understood, both times (LOL!) Then, you @Fritzy_22, live in a GREAT neighborhood! I'm trying to prep for MY hike, @mamamc7, want to do 6 miles with the eldest in Michigan.

Get on a veg diet no oil just beans for protean and you will lose 2 lbs a day. Walk until you sweat 30 min to 1hr.
