HCB's Journal, 25 June 2015

Greetings Buddies:

CAUTION - RANT AHEAD

I am sick to death of people who believe their way is the "right" way or the "only" way to lose weight. Today, in particular, it is "ex-bodybuilders" and "bodybuilders" - one of whom wanted to say what I suggested to a poster asking for suggestions was completely "false" and "Bulls##t" - I say Back Off, Dude. I have a right to my opinion without your judgment. Take your abusive attitude and language elsewhere.

WHY am I irritated? Because all of us are unique in our physiques, medical issues, age, metabolism, caloric needs, BMR, different goals, etc. Calories count - but quality also matters.

I know my body - and all of you know your own bodies. We all choose our own paths for what best works for each of us. People who go off on what other people are choosing and suggest their way is the ONLY way are closed-minded and uneducated about the many ways people can successfully lose weight.

Words of the Week:
"The true competition is against the little voice inside you that wants you to quit."

I am dedicated, determined and diligent.

And the irony..... what once worked might not work again weeks, months or a year later. There is no right or perfect way to lose.

I totally agree! (And I saw the post...and had similar feelings...the poster has done this on several other posts I've read through over the last several days). I have hypothyroidism, polycystic ovarian syndrome, insulin resistance, etc., and my body does not conveniently lose weight purely on a calorie deficit the same as others who don't have medical issues like these can. You are right...everyone IS different. I was in a calorie deficit for 2 weeks straight without losing one pound--watching calories only. My carbs were high! As soon as I started watching my carbs (still maintaining the same amount of calories) my body responded, and I dropped weight easily! We don't all fit in one box...thanks for your post.

well said..every one is different and what works for me may not work for some one else..

Exactly. Which is why I usually will say what is working with me, as I have tried calorie restriction and it did nothing. My path has been low carb and LCHF. It doesn't work for everyone but it is working for me! Plus I don't have to feel like I'm missing something cause I get to eat so many good things. I realize the things I don't eat were causing me trouble anyway. I know I can eat it once in a while and with control, but don't need it. I like my results too much to HAVE to have to things like I used to! If eating only vegetables, or eating very low calorie works for you, great! I wish you the best success! But if it isn't working, try another approach! We all want success here!

i saw that post as well and i wanted to say something but didn't want to stir up anymore poop! i actually used to go to school for nutritional science and we learned early on that different bodies metabolize foods in different ways. case in point: my mom does atkins, her body doesn't know what to do with carbs but runs efficiently on protein and fat. however, if i go without carbs i gain no matter what, so i eat lots of healthy, complex carbs. and then some people have medical issues that straight calorie deficits just don't work on because their body doesn't metabolize food properly. there is no one size fits all to health!

I saw that post also. You were more patient than I would have been. Most people on this site are extremely supportive of all the different diets being used. It's a shame that some just can't. It's okay to have a different opinion but calling bs or false statement is not okay. Remember what people were certain about 100 years ago has been proven wrong today on quite a number of things. After all the the world was flat how many years ago?

Could not agree more HCB...I'm on meds that 'slow weight loss' so taking that into consideration I tweak what I eat. Loved your rant

Well said HCB.It was on all our minds when we read that post!

OK I had to go back and read journals lol. That person was a jackass. If nothing else, we all have learned on this journey there is no one answer, no magic formula, no cut and dried right or wrong. You handled it well too I might add HCB. I would not have been so courteous.

Along the lines of people thinking that their way to do things is the right way........ Back near the beginning of my weight loss journey, a couple of my co-workers were inspired by my weight loss. One day we were talking (while we should have been working) and one of the people started to tell me what I should be doing to loose weight after I said what I was doing. (at this point I had already lost 20/25 pounds). After several minutes of telling me what I was doing wrong, the other person that I inspired looked at her and said, "He's already lost 20/25 pounds and neither of us has lost anything." Without another word, we all walked back to our work stations (a bit late) and the conversation never came up again. Unfortunately, many months later, not only have neither of them lost weight, the one with the opinion has actually packed the weight on. Not to sound mean, but I'm glad I didn't follow her advice on how to loose weight......

Everyone is different! What works for one might not work for another. For myself keeping a diary of everything I eat and setting a set number of daily calories works for me. But doesn't work for my roommate. We are here for support not to hear that what we are doing is wrong. Kudos to you for standing your ground!

People that do those types of things a stirring too many negative things into a group or directed at a single person. To say any one way is you are doing it wrong brings doubt into the minds of others. NOT the purpose of this site IMHO! We are all hear for help, support and healing and you are right there is no one singular good way to do it and every body is different. We need positive impacts not negative... many of us are trying to uproot ourselves from negatives, whether it be body image, mental image, attitude towards food, health issues, increasing age, disabilities..... there are too many hurdles for there to be ONE RIGHT WAY. I say take the path that suits you best that you can commit to and live it. I am sorry you had to deal with that HCB. I hope the rest of your week/weekend goes better.

HCB - IMO you responded well. That person is essentially hijacking the journal of another person to push his point over and over. You took the high ground. This is YOUR journal, rant away. I'm in agreement w/ you.

I agree, totally! We are each unique, and must find what works best for us.
