Christansprayers's Journal, 28 April 2012

So, I had been on my diet for a grand total of 1 week and 1 day when I got back from my walk and was bringing my husband and his work crew some lunch. I missed a call while I was in the restaurant picking up their lunch and when I called the number back after returning to the car I got some really interesting news. Abe, my husband, had been up on a ladder about 15 feet up in the air that was propped up against a tree. He was using a chainsaw on the tree to cut a dead oak limb down when the limb broke halfway through the cut it and swung down and knocked the ladder out from underneath my husband. When he hit the ground it knocked him out and gave him a concussion. He did wake up and was sitting up on the limb he had cut down when the ambulance arrived to take him to the ER but they strapped him down and put a neck brace on him till they could find out the extent of his injury. When they got him to the ER in our small town, they did 2 CT Scans and an X-ray on him and found he had fractured his skull and had blood on his brain in addition to the concussion. Well, they decided to transfer him to a bigger hospital with a Neurosurgeon about an hour away. I followed the ambulance down to the hospital where they keep him overnight for observation and after doing a follow up CT scan the next morning they sent him home with a narcotic, and a nausea med and a list of warning signs to watch out for in case the bleeding got worse. He went back to the ER in our town the next Tuesday and went to the bigger hospital the next day to be checked out at the ER there because our doctor recommended it due to his symptoms. We then went to have a visit with the Neurosurgeon on Friday of that week and on Monday of this week with an ear nose and through specialist. Abe is now on the mend and he is back at work, but ONLY as a supervisor, and he hasn't been having many problems except for at night since this past Wednesday. Through all of this, I have faithfully went on all my normal walks, with one exception of one day that I had to cut my walk 10 minutes short due to my husband needing me at work. With this injury we have been eating out allot and have had many meals provided by fellow church members, but I have only went over my calories by maybe 10-20 calories (at the most) 2 days. My boys are still hating the ride in the stroller and 2 days they had a break because Grandmama took off work to watch them so Abe and I could get things done and I walked without them. My 4 year old can be talked into it with bringing toys on the walk. My 2 year old however has had days when he SCREAMS the whole 3 miles! I purchased a mp3 player today with some speakers to help on the walk so maybe bringing some music might help. If you guys have any suggestions on how to pacify a VERY unhappy 2 year old who hates walks, please share with me! I am open to ideas, besides beating my kid every time he cries (although I am not against giving my kid a quick pop on the rear when it is necessary). I would also appreciate some ideas yummy breakfasts and snacks that are low in calories. For those of you prayer warriors out there, your prayers for our family as we are dealing with my husbands injury are greatly appreciated and welcomed :)!
