Silly me -- I got a little down and out when I saw a photo of myself this past weekend. I had been 100% and there was not visible (to me) sign of the hard work and effort I had put in. Let's face it, we are our worst judgmental critics.

There has been differences, though not always visible through a camera lense.

You could not see that while on workcation, I worked out every morning before starting my day, one day which included working out in a tent. You couldn't see I kept track of my eating for the majority of the time, yesterday we won't talk about. LOL. You could not see how I tried to select the best option of food choices based on what was available and what I needed. Somedays I succeeded more than others. You cannot see where we took cash for food from the farmer's market to make quiche for breakfast, thus eliminating room for cheating first thing. You can't see how I do not view myself anymore as the overweight slob who seems to be drifting. You can't see how the dedication to get back to the plan as soon as possible today. You can't see how walking up a steep incline didn't wear me out immediately, and you can't see how I actually felt like an athlete hiking up it! You can't see the smile in my mind as I felt the muscles in my glutes and legs respond to the push I requested to get up that hill more than once. You can't see the fresh air that found it's way pumped into my lungs and outward inside my body. Even though I was a huge chicken to climb aboard the scales this morning, I have plenty of Non Scale Victories to celebrate.

What are your NSV?

Thank you for reminding me for ALL the 'can't see'! I wish there was a mirror that had a bullet list of all of those that would come up with your image each time ... maybe I would look in the mirror more! They are just as important if not more.

This is the prime example of why we shouldn't give a scale power over our plans. Just deciding to start the journey to better health has such a ripple effect that to just let a scale (or picture) determine "success" is not doing justice to the journey. I challenge everyone today to really look at their NSV's and post them here!

You keep on smiling. I'm finding myself looking at old photos of my much younger self, and thinking how fat I look in those, even though I'm a 100 lbs heavier now than I was way back then. The camera doesn't capture us, it captures what the user sees, and that's not always what we truly look like. I'll have 2 photos taken by 2 different people at the same event, and look terrible in one, but terrific in the other.

Beautifully and gracefully stated! NSV's are as follows: Being able to pull off a 25 second plank! Reaching 60 sit ups and then going on to crunches, almost at my 180 crunch goal. Hitting level 19 resistance on the recumbent bike, and many other things I was never able to do, even at my lowest weight back in my 20's! None of it happened over night, but it has been amazing to watch this body respond just taking thing what little step at a time. It's become less about what it looks like and very much about what it is capable of doing and has done for this girl, even when I wasn't so nice to it.

Just starting this, found out I am pre diabetic and having to count carbs. It was almost impossible for me to figure out what I wanted to eat when I didn't know I was prediabetic, and now it is frustrating as heck having to stop and look up how many carbs something has, hopefully I will get use to having to do that and not shoot myself in the foot.
