Fasting is a lost art. You get better the more you do it. Even if you do 2 or 3 36hr fasts per week while staying lchf, you will get some fantastic results

I've never been brave enough to do it, but I've read it's better to ease into it! Maybe a couple 36hr fast before going all in!! Hope you feel better!

@Jenibeann, i just woke up into my 60h mark of my fasting journy and I feel much better then the days before. I think that if you go for it and reach the 36h mark, you should do the extra mile and go a bit further. It does gets much easier after the second day, both in my personal expirience and in the anacdotal stories of other people... Good luck :-)

I was thinking about the 3 day fast challenge but don't have the guts to do it. To me, it's all mental. Sometimes I don't feel hungry but I still eat.

we'll, Its deffintly definitely mental, as you say, sometimes we all eat even though we dont fell hunger at all. Even more then that, sometimes we eat when what we feel is thirst. The first and second days were harder then this day, which I'm about to finish, and from what I've read, being on a LCHF diet makes it easier to get through. I think you should just jump in the water and do it...

I have been doing a 3-day fast once a month for several months. Once you do it one time, you know you can, you know it gets easier and when, etc.. then it's just routine. It is a nice re-set for body and mind.

Finished after 72h. I felt that I could do more and I'm sure next time will be for a longer duration.

Good for you!! I'm starting today, any tips?

@Jenibeann you should stop eating :-P. First day was the hardest for me, but you should keep in mind that even of the hunger is strong, its like a wave, you get over a wave until the next one comes. Try and start a fast after dinner, when you wake up in the morning hunger is the weakest. when you crave food, drink some black tea, or coffee instead and keep drinking lots of water, as you carry on you loose more and more salt, and with it, water. Good luck!

Great job Roe!!!

@mlakhatch, anyone can do it, people have done it most of human history. I think you will find it much easier then you think, and you can try to do intermident fasting to ease yourself into it. what about 16 hours fasting, say you eat your last meal of the day at 8pm and skip breakfast to eat again your lunch at 12?

@roeekats - If that's the case then I complete about 12 hour fast everyday - I don't normally do breakfast - 2 cups coffee that's it - then I normally eat lunch anywhere between 11 and 1pm (going out we normally go at 11, but if I bring my lunch I'll eat around 1pm) and normally I eat my last meal around 9 or 10pm just depends on what all is going on in the house. But I take diabetes meds and sometimes if I go too long without eating I end up with the BG too low and I'm shaking and dizzy and stuff, then I'm on a hunt for a soda or OJ to bring it back up - Within the last year I have dropped ALL insulin thanks to the weight loss but I'm still taking an oral pill - if I'm able to fully get off of my diabetic meds all together I'd re-consider the fasting in SMALL intervals only.

Going LCHF is a good starting point to fully getting of diabetic medication... but Other wise, I agree, you shouldn't fast without medical suppervition if you're T2D
