sharletagraham's Journal, 27 June 2017

Today I used my food processor for a good use ... I made homemade refried beans ... No more processed foods from cans or boxes .... I've pulled out my big toys lol and I'm gonna be making everything in my home fresh ... This week I'm buying a juicer ... I'm so excited about food now and knowing that I have the option to make fresh whole foods and not feed my family garbage from a can or a box ... This is very important to me as a mom because I have an 11 year old daughter who suffers from being over weight and has a serious sweet addiction .... I it's my job to keep them healthy and because I have the tool's and the knowledge to do so I wouldn't be a good parent if I allowed her to continue like that knowing the damage and serious health issues it can cause her ... My kid's are my life and I want them to live happy and healthy lives

i use a mashed potato masher. i just add the cooked beans to a pan and heat them then i mash and add a tiny bit of salt, butter or coconut oil and a splash of milk.

I love your attitude, and changing over to cooking your own food seems to be the benchmark of losing and maintaining that loss. Whenever I read about members putting powdered crap in their smoothies or coffee, I cringe. The nutrition labels on some of these "diet" bars, powders and shakes read like a chemist's lab. I shop the produce and refrigerated sections now, and the freezer for fish. It may be psychological, but it makes losing weight easier. Kudos for changing your kids' WOE!

Yeah that's also a good way to make refried beans as well... I just really wanted to have a good reason to use my processor... I have so many different thing's and new recipes that I'm gonna try for my family now

Thank you I really am taking this new life change very serious ... My daughter is only 11 and she's not gonna want to make healthy choices if she doesn't see me doing it...I want to make things fun for her and have her help create these new creations... She Love's smoothies and making them so I can't wait to get my juicer and have her help make juices that will make us all healthy

Thank you ... I just know as a mom that kid's health is very important because it can cause even worse issues as they get older... My parents didn't teach us healthy eating and both my parents were over weight when I was growing up an my dad died 11 year's ago at the age of 47 do to a diabetes induced heart attack... I was also overweight, pretty much obese till I was 32 and I knew I had to make a life change.. I've maintained it pretty good for the most part for 6 years, even though I gained 27 lbs during the winter... Getting it off now and on track and I feel amazing.. I've learned so much and I love sharing it with others and watching them be just as happy and healthy... I want to be healthy for my kids and teach them healthy better eating and habits

Keep your homemade from scratch food making reasonable and within an attainable goal. I personally can a lot of my own food, make my own bread and do a lot of discount turkey / chicken buying, deboning, making broth marinating and freezing. It's a lot of work and sometimes it can be too much and make you want to give up!
