I have Type 2 diabetes. Earlier this year, my sugar and A1C levels were a bit elevated, and the doctor increased my medication to bring these levels back down. In addition, I really had to radicalize my diet. I'm pleased to say I got a favorable report the other day, and the doctor lowered my medication. There is also a possibility I may be getting off the medication if I can keep the levels down. I will definitely keep up this diet!

What diet? My DH is about to have a gastric sleeve surgery because he can't get his diabetes under control. Wish this didn't have to happen. Keep up the good work, I hope you get off the meds!

To answer your question, I tried to get a higher ratio of proteins and fats to carbs. One way I did this was to incorporate protein shakes into my diet. Some have too many carbs, so you have to watch your carb intake. I try to get brands that have at least twice as much proteins as carbs, such as Premier Protein or AdvantEdge. Also, if you have a problem with dairy foods, Muscle Milk is a good one to use because it's non-dairy, and has a good protein-to-carb ratio. Hope this helps.

I had a gastric sleeve and it wasn't bad, but I think if I'd had someone who could cook for me like I did for my husband and get me more steady on a keto diet I might not have needed the surgery. I'm not sure though, as I also have 3 immune conditions, one of which effects my thyroid. And quite often when other people tried to feed my high "protein" they feed me soy isolates or protein with preservatives that make me drastically ill. I had to be totally in control of everything to make it work, and even then it took 2 years to balance all the dietary badness to find stuff that doesn't set off one disease or another and I'm still getting tripped up! 🙇🏻‍♀️
