Herbie's Journal, 03 June 2007

So, after all my bellyaching last week I had some very positive feedback this weekend. My inlaws were visiting us and they were both impressed at how different I look. Dad in law even guessed that I'd lost 15 pounds, which is right on. They are both healthy eaters, pretty good shape, and it was really validating to hear their comments. My husband says I look younger. I feel stronger, too. This weekend I lifted my 5 yr old up on to a tree branch above my head, and there's no way I could have done that a month ago. Thanks for all the encouraging comments on my last post.

I'm going to wait another day to weigh in and record here. Right now I look at the scale more than once a day. I think looking at the scale every day is kind of useful because it gives me a constant sense of where I stand weight-wise, but it also makes it harder to see my own progress. Any suggestions on how often to weigh in?

I haven't weighed yet, but I'm going to do it once a week, I refuse to do it daily only to see it fluctuate up and down, that's depressing, so I know (or hope) with a week in between, I'll at least lose a pound. Congrats on your current weight loss

I agree with the once a week timeframe; it's easier on the ego then everyday. You don't want to get caught up in the numbers if you've been following the diet to a T and don't see the progress. Also, don't rely just on numbers, I can always tell with clothes (pants in particular). Keep it up!

If you're good about not stressing on the daily numbers, go ahead and weigh yourself every day. I do, but I don't record the numbers except on my weigh in day here. One thing that really helps me is to weigh several times through the day. If I can keep the number consistant during the day, I usually have a loss the next morning.

I weigh myself every morning after I get out of bed. It helps me stay on track. Plus I can see how any changes in diet effected me (adding new things etc) I can see how some people dont like to do it daily because it can get depressing, but for me I prefer it, it does help motivate me. If I only did it once a week Im afraid I wouldnt be holding myself as "accountable"....id use the excuse...."well Im not weighing myself for another 4 days" LOL So for me daily works best. You just have to find whats right for you.
