JockoT's Journal, 15 January 2017

Just back from an hour dance class. We are doing two Show dances for our Renewal reception and have upper our tuition to 2 hours per week. Friday is with our usual instructor and Sunday with her ex-Ballroom champion husband. Today was a hard shift. Spent most of the time working on our First Waltz then about 10 minutes on our Argentine Tango. Ready for dinner now!
Had a superb dinner yesterday. Two HUGE Ostrich steaks, with fried eggs and fried mushrooms. They were so tender and so tasty. Tonight is just a Hotpot.

I've never had ostrich.. It must be good, does it taste like chicken or turkey? I raised milk goats and tho't I'd be able to use the meat from the young, but did not care for it. I've also tried lamb, but don't care for it, either. I guess I'm spoiled, I really like beef.

Never had Ostrich either. I didn't know you could get a steak from it. They are certainly big enough. LOL! I haven't had Hotpot, either. It's an Asian dish, right?

It will all be worth those exercise classes when you wow everyone at the reception dance Jocko. Ostrich steaks, never tried it and don't know where i could purchase some from.

I would like to try ostrich, but none of the stores carry it around my rural community. I'll have to Google it and see if it is available in the larger city that I venture out to for shopping and doctors.

My son bought ostrich steaks from a website called Muscle Food. They deliver in a cool box. Mom - a hotpot is a meat and veg casserole, usually baked with sliced potatoes on the top.

Well done on your dancing, Jocko. I'm sure your renewal reception will be spectacular!

Ostrich tastes like a delicate flavoured beef. Smoother texture than beef and exceptionally lean. We buy our Ostrich steaks from our local Morrison's supermarket. It is in the fresh meat department, but pre-packed. I eat the entire 306 gm pack myself! Hotpot, as Doobrie says, is a meat and vegetable stew/casserole. We use lean, Aberdeen Angus steak, diced. We do not add the potatoes on top, instead we boil the potatoes separately and serve them with the meat. Easier to weigh my share.

Thanks for the explanations of Jocko's exotic fare. LOL! I guess the Hotpot wouldn't be that exotic, but when I googled, it came up as dish served like an Asian fondu where you cooked your different foods in it. I was totally impressed. :)

Jocko, if anyone takes a video or photos of you and your wife dancing, please post them. I love to see people doing real ballroom dancing at events like this. (Not into celebrities doing it on telly, though.) As for the food, it sounds delicious. Long time since I've had really good beef (ostrich, never). Have a great week.
