Latest Lily picture:

Yesterday was a very busy day and not a great diet day. We were taking Mum to the dentist in Edinburgh and on the way home we had planned on having a Fish Supper. In Scotland you get TWO pieces of battered Haddock and a mountain of chips. We get one between us and it was all counted into my RDI. Madge said, "Get a tub of their ice cream", which I did, and of course that was not planned. It is the best ice cream I have ever tasted. Even better than the Italian ice cream I had a couple of weeks back (this is also home made Italian. All the best ice cream vendors and chip shop owners in Scotland are from Italian descent).

Yesterday was the first of me using my new car in real traffic. What a nightmare. Miles of slow moving traffic with a manual (stick shift) is no picnic. Give me back my automatic. I don't know if it was the car or my ropy clutch control, but I was like a kangaroo on steroids. Add to that it was a hot day and no Air Con. Give me back my Volvo. Only saving grace was, for the trip my mpg indicator returned 57 mpg!!!

Lily is so cute - and so tiny! That food bowl looks huge compared to her. We don't get such big portions of fish and chips down here and I'm not sure we have Italian ice cream vendors where I live. Probably just as well. I can only drive automatics as I learnt to drive when I lived in the US for a while and couldn't get the hang of a manual when I got back. My first car in England was a DAF although we had an Oldsmobile Cutlass in America :)

Bet Lily would have loved some of that haddock, never mind her, I would have! ..... It's very strange changing cars we had an XJ6 for years, automatic with power steering, so when I got the Honda Civic with gears it felt like I was driving a tank, but like you the fuel saving was out of this world ..... Your right about the ice cream as a girl living in London a man used to ride his bike around the streets with an icebox on the front, he was an Italian, I can remember that taste now it was so creamy, every weekend there would be a different flavour can't remember the name of the one with coloured glace fruit in but it was scrummy ..... My first car was a Daf variomatic, memories. Ice cream.. hmm.. yums...piled weight on after recent trip to Holland, their ice cream is fabulous, had to restrict to one a day or I'd be even fatter!

The "food bowl" is actually a dish with vermiculite in it. We grow trays of grass (not that kind), for Lucy to nibble at. Lily had just discovered it, on the end of the window table, and had been nibbling just before the photograph was taken. We take our fish supper home to eat (chippy is just up the road), and tried her with a bit. She didn't go for it, but I think that was probably because it was warm. She is not used to warm food. I remember the DAF. Ugly little thing and a nightmare to work on. Volvo bought them over as far as I remember.

Lovely pic. Definitely agree with the best chippies and ice cream places in Scotland being italian. Amselmo's in Dunoon was amazing. You'd get there and the queue would be about 5 people and you'd think "not too bad" then the people in front would start ordering things like "Fish supper for 25" and you realised you were about 150 fish suppers from the front. Fortunately, they'd take your order and money quickly and you could repair to the pub over the road to wait :D Zavaroni's in Rothesay was always worth a visit when I stopped off with the boat. I drive a manual now but you can't beat the simplicity of my old automatic Range Rover. Even the lights and windscreen wipers were auto! You just got in and pointed it in the right direction

Yes, Jocko, the DAF was an ugly little thing but it was all we could afford at the time. After that I think I had three Volvos. I've got a new Hyundai i10 now and I love it. @Burble - I was in Holland recently - wish I'd known about their ice cream. I didn't try it :(

Oh my gosh it doesn't get cuter than that! Fish sounds so good! I'm looking up words almost every day! I just realized a bunch of you are not in USA, HA. I've learned some new words/sayings! And 57 mpg, what I'd give for that. I have a Subaru and I get c Max 28 mpg. I don't drive much though. Enjoy a little ice cream for me.

I'll have to produce a glossary for our American cousins. Mind you, I need to do the same for those south of Carlisle once I start using Scottish words and phrases. The great thing about the Internet is meanings are easily looked up.

Jacko, you'll like this, I've never heard the word "constitutional" used in anything but referring to the constitution. I kept wondering what you were talking about lol. Google away feeling a little stupid😇 Then, this last week I've heard it on tv two other times, ha!

Constitution has a few meanings. 1. the act of constituting or state of being constituted 2. the way in which a thing is composed; physical make-up; structure 3. (Government, Politics & Diplomacy) the fundamental political principles on which a state is governed, esp when considered as embodying the rights of the subjects of that state 4. (Government, Politics & Diplomacy) (often capital) (in certain countries, esp Australia and the US) a statute embodying such principles 5. a person's state of health 6. a person's disposition of mind; temperament Number 5. is the one I am referring to. Therefore a constitutional, the noun is defined as "A walk taken regularly for one's health".

Oh my goodness,Lily looks so adorable, how old is she Jocko? I agree too about the Italians and their yummy ice cream and also their fish n chips ,Mmmm, making my mouth water. What a great thread this is. -- 'Lizzygracemusic', I am English and like you I sometimes do not understand some phrases on fatsecret from American members. Is'nt the internet wonderful being able to 'chat' to members and buddies across the world on this great site where we all have the same goal, a healthier lifestyle.

Lily is 8 weeks old come Monday. She is a tornado, when awake. Thankfully her battery doesn't hold a lot of charge at the moment. Lucy and Lily had a face to face this morning which went not too bad. They are still leading separate lives but the overlap is increasing with each passing day.

Have you tried a Feliway diffuser, Jocko? I think they're excellent for keeping cats calm and happy. I bought them for both my sons when they each got new cats and I've used them when there's anything disturbing in the house - like Christmas when we have all the relatives round. You would probably only need one in a flat.

There is one upstairs and one downstairs. I hate to think what it would be like without them!

Ha ha! The kitties should be fine then. Sounds like they're getting used to each other anyway :)

I drive a Suzuki Jimny now, great little car, not much wellie or room, Takes 4 squashed, no doggies, or 3 equally squashed + crammed in doggies. best with just 2 + doggies.frightfully uncomfortable and basic, no springs, but has 4x4 so suits me down to the ground. My rescue cat, Lusy is x Siamese with startling blue eyes which are completely crossed, so bit alarming when she looks at you. Always wander how she sees where she's going.

You will have to post a picture of Lusy. Love to see her.

To post a picture you have to have it posted on a site like Photobucket (which I use), Flickr or the like. You can then copy the Direct link, and on a new Journal entry, select the photo icon and insert the Direct link between the two [IMG]'s.
