I would like to make a point about LBGT rights. The GOP has knocked out their presidential platform. Tony Perkins of his Family Values Coalition, was able to pass most of the platform. One point was not to let gay parents adopt children. In my opinion, this will leave many children without homes in government placement facilities. I would like to give one example in my teaching, that gave me some background to this issue.

I had an Afro-American student, who was trying to earn credit toward graduation, who was 17 years old. One day, she came to class crying so profusely, I needed a mop to wipe up her tears. Literally, she was sobbing like I had never seen. I asked her what had happened. She told me, she had been placed in many temporary foster situations, and she finally found parents that loved her, but Social Services were going take her from her parents. She didn't tell me her parents were two women. She asked me, if I could call Social Services, and validate, that she was making progress to graduation. I talked to Social Services, and they wanted to know if she was on track to graduate in that school year. I assured them of her situation related to credits, and they told me she could remain with her parents. For that school year, she and her parents assured me, that she would work hard and earn her credits to graduate. She worked very diligently, and graduated at the end of the school year, and I celebrated her graduation with her, and her gay parents. I felt it was one of the high points of my teaching.

What April said. All true. You're a good man. Good luck with your doctor's appointment. You deserve all good outcomes.

Thanks Kp! I believe this is an issue, that many do not understand. To be honest, this situation even surprised me. I have learned a lot from my wife also, as she works with many transgenders, and homeless.

Also many gay couples, who naturally, aren't having their own kids, wish to adopt, and Social Services keeps a close eye on these adopted children. I have also seen people, be foster parents, who I wondered, if they were more interested in the money, than the kids. One of my neighbors, when I lived in Palmdale, brought in a foster teenager, who got their daughter pregnant. Not too bright.

There is good and bad in all groups of people but we have to learn to see them as human beings first and foremost and not straight, gay, black, white, from this country or that country, this religion or that religion. But getting everyone to do that? Not a chance. We can still try though and teach our children and grandchildren to understand. Hopefully the future will then be better for them as it's all the above that cause so much violence and unhappiness. Good post, Warren.

Thanks Doobrie! Please email me on your husbands procedure. I thought it was interesting that Keck does CyberKnife for brain rumors or cancer, but not prostate. warrenwinter4@gmail .com thanks!

I am more concerned about the problems that have been reported about Social Service departments not keeping a close eye on the homes that are fostering, than about the sexual orientation, race, etc. of the foster parents. I do understand that many of those departments are short-handed and understaffed, but there are entirely too many cases of foster parents neglecting and/or abusing the children in their care because (as Warren pointed out) they are using the program as a form of income!

That GOP point about no adoptions suggests that they still subscribe to the belief that being gay is a choice, so children will "become gay" from the exposure - untrue and subtly also suggests that homosexuality is bad and wrong. (Though I suppose an unconventional household could prove problematical for some kids, this should be examined on a case by case basis.) I think many believe that being gay is a choice because they don't examine their own attractions - or lack thereof - to the same or opposite sex. Sexual preference is ingrained.

Thanks for the post Warren and it was a good thing that you were there for you student.

@WW........We need more people like you.......more teachers like you. I am sure that student will never forget what you did for her. Here in Belgium LGBT have rights and are treated pretty well. They are allowed to marry or live together in peace. Our last Prime Minister was even a gay man.

Ok, thanks everyone, your comments are very compassionate. Sorry, Doobrie! I will look for it, as personal ones seem to hide. I will look right now, and get back to you. Sorry about that.

Doobrie, I will be happy, when I speak to the radiology nurse at Keck, and find why they don't do CyberKnife. I have heard of a surgery with proton beads, that is put in the area. I am going to speed up my research on it. Thanks so much! I have an idea, I may change my primary to Keck, so I have full access to Kenneth Norris Cancer.

I will not comment on Anything to do with the LGBT community. What I WILL comment on is the status of the American Family. If the government would stop promoting the destruction of the American family by promoting Welfare and all these aid programs for single mothers then we wouldn't HAVE children without families. We wouldn't HAVE as many homeless children. And we wouldn't see a nation being ripped apart at the seems right now. Just sayin. Love you brother Warren.
