JockoT's Journal, 02 July 2016

I am like a half shut knife this morning. Mrs T said I had done too much, walking both to and from the surgery yesterday, but I felt I knew better. Wrong. On top of that I woke this morning with a stinker of a summer cold. Sneezing in playing havoc with my wound! Add to that the cauterisation has left it stinging a bit too.
I am back on the full pain killer regime again. At least for the next two or three days. The good news is, I managed almost 5000 steps yesterday. My weight is still the same this morning, despite 150% RDI yesterday, and as I was sitting down to porridge at 06:30 this morning, then toast and coffee at 08:00, it looks like today will be no better.
I walked down to the chemist this morning (blowing a gale here) and now I am home I realise I am a lot weaker than I think. The thing is, I don't feel I am an old man. The fact I will be 68 tomorrow doesn't convince me otherwise. Other people my age are old, but I am not, as anyone else my age will tell you!!!

It sounds to me as though you are well on the mend! I'm definitely worth you on the age thing! Happy birthday for tomorrow 😀

Lol - of course you're not old! 68 is the new 48 these days. You're bound to be weak after being unable to get out and about for so long. You'll soon pick up strength. Good idea to go back on the meds for a couple of days. No point in being uncomfortable. Strange about that cold because the exact same thing happened to me this morning. I couldn't stop sneezing and now my nose is sore from keep wiping it. Also I shall be tired later as it woke me up at 5 am. Bad timing since mother-in-law is arriving this afternoon. Anyway, take it easy for the rest of the day. You've probably done enough for now.

5000 steps after virtually nothing is an awful lot - I'm not surprised you're feeling a bit ropey. The cold won't be helping either. Take it easy today, Jocko, you want to be able to enjoy your birthday tomorrow.

Probably got the cold in the doctors surgery. All those sick people. It was the same when I worked in the hospital. From being a healthy individual I caught everything that was going.

what is "blowing a gale" ? WOW by the way, 5000 steps! That is a LOT! no wonder your "like a half shut knife" hehe. HAPPY PRE BIRTHDAY, 68 can be VERY YOUNG! My neighbor is 78 and i know older that are still running around , gardening, mowing their lawn, and more darn active than ME! Glad you are a young 68! I hope i have your attitude in 20 years! Your are very motivating! What do your doctors say about your progress in healing?

Lizzy. Blowing a gale is just gale force winds. Being 300 Metres from the sea it can get pretty wild. It has been a couple of weeks since I saw my doctor, but the nurses that tend my dressings are happy with it. Once I have the car back on the road I am to arrange to see my GP and I have to see the Consultant in a further three and a half weeks. I want to ask him when I can get back cycling again.

I will be the same age in a couple months. No, we are not old! However, the body can sometimes try to make us feel that way!
