jessberry's Journal, 13 April 2016

I love the fact that I am finally learning how to love myself. Being depressed has a lot to do with why I gained so much weight in the past, but no more. I've learned that it's ok to do things for me, to take time for me, and to spoil myself from time to time. Everyone has bad days and hard times.... It's how we choose to deal with those things that make us who we are. So I'm focusing on the positive and finally figuring out what makes ME happy, instead of worrying about if I'm making everyone else happy. I feel like for the first time I'm finally learning who I am as a person, instead of just a mother and wife, and I like me :)

Great work on helping yourself. I agree it's important to take "me" time. I think we become so focused on helping others and not wanting to appear selfish that we lose ourselves. At that point we lose our purpose and goals. Then the downward spiral begins.

Love, love, love this journal today! THAT is the fat secret. Once you have the esteem to love yourself, you will do what it takes to be healthy.

Thanks, all! @cat- that's exactly how I feel! Not wanting to appear selfish is what has held me back for so long. I finally realized taking time for myself isn't selfish, it's necessary. I think after becoming a mother I forgot that somewhere along the way. @glen- I love hearing people's stories! I, like the young man, appear bright on the outside... Hiding my scars behind my smiles. It's amazing what people can go through. I bet you'd be a great neighbor! We'd drink our wine and swap stories all the time!

I agree with you. It isn't what happens or our circumstances, but how we react and the choices we make. It is too easy to let others tell us who we are. For too long I have lived up to other people's opinion of me for instead of taking charge and being who I truly am. I have told myself that I would be a better (mom, wife, worker, etc) if only......! I have based my happiness on my ability to make others happy. You are right that I should learn what makes ME happy. It sounds selfish but I am a person not just an extension of someone else.
