Bcoulal's Journal, 09 April 2016

I've never realized this until I did some research and tested it out on myself, but caffeine is inflammatory.

Caffeine, more than a drug.

I was wondering why I was having all kinds of tenderness in my joints every time after I drank coffee or energy drink full of caffeine (and I used to drink black coffee and zero sugar energy drinks).

I stopped drinking coffee and beverages containing caffeine and the inflammation disappeared. Who would have thought that America's morning go-to drug can be harmful?

Apparently caffeine does more than just cause inflammation, it also increases insulin resistance, thins your blood vessel walls, blocks iron absorption, promotes calcium loss, and exhausts your adrenal glands to name a few.

It pays to be an autodidact. Exercise those neurons. The process of elimination is the only way to go when you live in a society feeding you poisonous food.

Interesting because I was feeling pain in my knees and also thought it could be from way too much caffeine. Thanks for verifying my own observation

I've read that 1 cup of black coffee is actually anti-inflammatory for the antioxidants and cancer fighting properties... Maybe the sugar/Splenda/French vanilla/cappuccino type is the bad kind??? There are studies that say Caffeine blocks inflammation in the brain..??? I think a cup of coffee (black) should pose no threat to the body, actually benefits the brain for cognitive activity. I just know when I drink my morning coffee, I think clearly, I feel better, and it tastes so good!

I'd have to give up salt before I'd have any worry from harmful affects of 1 or 2 cups of black coffee. The goodness in that cup outweighs the negatives for me. And ZERO calories. But believe me, I have full respect for your mindset and hope to eventually reach that level of purity. Keep sharing your ideas with us. Thanks

well bye bye coffee and hello decaf green tea. Yes No maybe?

Well I thought the process for making things decaffeinated was more harmful than the thing itself... if you dont want caffine just get a different kind of herbal tea.. they are great. I got a whole drawer full of different tea.

Yes I love herbal teas especially chai. But if the caffeine is what causes the problem decaf would be the way to go or just go without. I think just drinking water and nothing else would get dull after a while.

Hi BC, how's it going? are you doing one of your fasts? I was curious if it's recommended in the first few weeks of starting LCHF?

Unlike green tea or any tea in general, coffee isn't a mild form of caffeine. The purpose of the "caffeine" part is to ward off insects. It's basically a plant's defensive mechanism to kill bugs, but humans consume it to get hyper. I'm talking specifically caffeine here, so this includes coffee if it isn't decaffeinated. I'd like to see someone drink decaffeinated coffee if you're touting that coffee itself has antioxidants, I suppose you can live without the "caffeine" part. Just testing a theory. The same arguments used to defend "wine is healthy," and dare I return in wit, "Why don't you just eat red grapes? resveratrol exists in the skins of grapes, and fresh grapes contains more resveratrol than wine. You can live without the 'alcohol' part right?"

smartygirlCA, you can try intermittent fasting and see how that works for you. Don't do a long-term fast until you've mastered intermittent fasting. The minimum fasting period is 16 hours with an 8 hour eating window. My mom is skinny as hell and she's 61 years old. She naturally eats once or twice a day and fasts for 16-18 hours without even thinking about it. To her it's been a way of life for over 60 years.

For an alternative form of caffeine, a milder caffeine I drink Earl Grey English tea. Unlike coffee, which is made from coffee seeds/beans, tea is made from leaves. The seeds of plants contains higher amounts of caffeine than the leaves, very potent stuff. Caffeine was never meant to be consumed, it was a plant's natural insecticide, technically a poison. But humans thought it would be fun to take a risk and drink this poison and get high off of it. lol, silly humans.

I don't get the same inflammatory reaction from tea as I do coffee. I think it's more than just caffeine in coffee that causes problems in your body, most coffee beans in transportation from crops develop mold and the mold can create what's known as aflatoxins. That's why the coffee beans are roasted before grounded up, to kill the mold, but it doesn't get rid of the aflatoxins created by the mold. Excerpt from this study: " Aflatoxins were detected in 76.5 and 54.6% of the infected samples with averages of 4.28 and 2.85 microg/kg of GCB and GRCB, respectively. Roasting was demonstrated to lower the concentration of Afs in GCB. The Afs levels were reduced by approximately 42.2-55.9% depending on the type and temperature of roasting. The highest yields of Afs were detected in the decaffeinated green coffee beans (24.29 microg/kg) and roasted coffee beans (16.00 microg/kg)."~www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12452679. I remember Dave Asprey's Youtube presentation (the founder of the Bulletproof diet) talking about aflatoxins in brand named coffees. He sells his own coffee product called Bulletproof coffee and claims it contains low amounts of aflatoxins, but I haven't tried it. Has anyone tried it?

You guys gotta understand, I was drinking just one cup of coffee per day and experienced tenderness and inflammation. I'm not a massive consumer of coffee and drink it by the gallons like Starbucks groupies. I went to Starbucks one time and ordered a straight black iced coffee without all the BS and everybody looked at me strange.

Hmm I wonder if my joint tenderness in my knees is also due to coffee? I only have one small 8 oz cup a day in the morning.

LOL! I swear the Baristas talk about you when you order coffee black. As though pouring up a simple cup of coffee is beneath them. :) I let coffee go a couple of months ago and I do admit I feel so much better. I do still drink caffeinated green tea though. I felt my metabolism really needed the help.
