I have dropped 11.4 pounds in 7 days. There is more to this story that is actually a bit deceiving in that statement.

On 9/1 I weighed in at 194.6 AFTER having attended the Minnesota State Fair. I went with the intention of eating whatever I wanted to eat from the root beer, to the deep fried, to the stuff on a stick. Oftentimes, what was on the stick had been deep fried. I did so with full knowledge that I would lose it all over the coming weeks because I had determined to go on a prolonged fast.

As I have often preached, fasting is not a good method for weight loss, and in this instance, I am not fasting to lose weight. Today, 9/7, I weighed in at 183.2. Quite some time ago I set a new goal of 183. In this modified fast I am having my morning smoothie and then water or tea with a very rare pop mixed in.

This spiritual journey seeking clarity as I continue in the start of new career is for the month of September. Denying the self and drawing closer to God through prayer is a discipline that can be very rewarding. But, to fast without seeking God in prayer is to just go hungry. The practice is not so much in the denial of food to the body as it is to deny the self its will and surrender to God's will. Only with prayer and seeking God will there be any worthwhile results.

I fully expected to drop 10 pounds in a short period of time. I pigged out at the fair to account for 4-7 pounds. I also knew from experience that weight loss would show up some, 3-5 pounds, as the system was emptied from the lack of food. So that is 7-12 pounds which puts me right on track.

Now the body has realized that it has been deprived and it will probably try to conserve in an attempt to not lose weight. Taking in less than 1000 calories is not conducive to good weight loss. After this week I will expect to drop some more weight. Whatever I lose in the last couple weeks, I fully expect to put back on 4 or 5 pounds in the first week of October as I reload the system.

At the end of it all, when I am back to normal habits around October 15, I expect to be near where I am now. I'll guess it will be 178-180.
