I saw some of your comments on someone elses journal, and I just wanted to stop by and throw out my two cents worth! I know it's hard to be a parties, and gatherings, and resist eating what everyone else is eating. But I truly came to the conclusion that this WOE is BEST for me! So, I really don't want the cake or the soda to begin with. That helps me to determine what I will eat. Meat is always an option. Most people typically provide something - whether a home party, a bbq, etc.. just insist on yours plain, without marinades etc... As for thanksgiving or the upcoming holidays - you mentioned you have kids, and you want it to be special for them. And that's awesome. But they're young...? And they probably do not have too much of an idea of 'traditional foods' that you think are what will make it special. You can pretty much tell a kid this homemade ----------- (fill in the blank) is special... and they will believe you. So start now, and look for recipes. If you like Turkey as a family, roast a turkey. Then look for a few casseroles, or fresh veggie dishes you can make to go with it. Use some fancy dishes if you have them, or candles...kids love to eat by candlelight... and make it special in other ways ...besides just pies, and food, etc. It doesn't have to be the BE ALL - END ALL of every celebration. (food, that is..) Of course whatever you make, you could make them one or two things they really love (even if you choose not to eat that item) just make two single serving sizes for them. There are a lot of ideas around here. You can definitely make this work for you...if that's what you really want to do!

I'm sorry...I lost my train of thought up there after..."meat is always an option"... I wanted to say beyond that...that yes, if you bring a salad, or bring a veggie... then at least you have a good carb and a protein to satisfy you. Or bring exactly what you want for you all together. Honestly, if I was on a Kidney diet, or a Diabetic Diet, and I HAD to watch whatever I ate, ... or my kid's were on a special diet for some reason... you can bet your life I would prepare my food and take it with me. Always. And I would explain myself to others. No need. It's your life. Your body. And your decision. When people ask me, I just politely tell them... "I choose not to eat certain foods, so I always come prepared! LOL! Just in case..."

Thank you, I hadn't really though about those special little things like the platters or eating by candle light, those are some great idea. I know I will miss my favorites though too but I can probably find something similar but low carb, never know I may find I like them better :) I really love the encouragement on this site it is a major life saver :D
