Fledgist's Journal, 25 August 2011

I had a pretty busy day yesterday, including a lot of walking. Plus an hour at the gym with half an hour on the treadmill and half an hour's training. The result: down another half-pound today. I'm closing in on the 14 stone mark, which is a pretty big milestone.

The head trainer at the gym accused me of being slim yesterday. I did point out that I was still fat, but rather weakly. I now weigh less than he does, but he's 210 pounds of muscle at 6'2".

I'm now below 89 kilos, which is definitely good.

In other news, I just got my autumn clothes. I fit into 15 1/2 collar shirts, and I got a 32" belt since I'm in the second-to-last hole of my current 34" belt. I'm staring at the thing and wondering at its shortness. What is absolutely clear is that I am completely below extra-large size in everything now.

The library is doing a series on university center authors, and interviewed me yesterday. This means that in a couple of weeks there will be video of my ugly mug on YouTube. Oh boy.

Fantastic.... Don't know about you, but initailly I found it hard, to get my head around being a smaller size. I would go into a shop and take 2 or 3 different sizes into the changing room- always trying the biggest size on first.. After a few instances when even the smallest one was pretty loose (I sometimes bought them, even though they were loose -because I just couldn't think I could be able to fit into a smaller size) I have EVENTUALLY got my head around being smaller. I still have some of those buys that were loose but were the size I had become accustomed to buying - gradually the are "falling" off me lol

Congratulations. You are doing so well. It is difficult to realize you are a smaller size. I still see myself as 'fat' which is ridiculous. I'm not skinny but I'm not fat. So proud for you, and to be accused of being skinny - wow, would someone please accuse me? Keep up the good work. And now doing an hour in the gym. You've come a l o n g way!

What surprised me was an occasion, last weekend, when I had to dress up, and what had previously been my tightest shirt was loose around the collar. I'd just ordered a new jacket, and that's just a little tight, but it buttons. You're right, I still feel fat, and I can still see the flab under my clothes. Still, there's a huge difference between where I was and where I am now. You've all been extraordinarily encouraging. Thank you.

Tight and ripped is not my goal. Trim is. I've no plans to be a muscle magazine cover. What I want to be is healthy.
