ShyGuy's Journal, 23 August 2011

I got out and took the dog for a walk up to the park, and a quarter of the way around; it took me an hour and twenty minutes to get back. That's the furthest I've walked him to date. I'll take a shorter walk tomorrow, and then extend it, on Thursday, to all the way around. The significance of this to me is, it's the same park I used to run around, with my doberman, thirty years ago, while getting ready for Marine Corps OCS. If I can make this a habit, then eventually, as my weight goes down, I'll be able to run/ walk my way around again. I have no misconceptions about breaking any speed records, while doing this, but just to be able to do it again would be short of a miracle. The distance around the park alone is 3 miles, but since I'm leaving from my front door, it makes the total distance about 4 miles. Thirty years ago I was driving up to the park, before beginning my run; this time I'm leaving the car behind. Oh yeah! I'm getting this weight off!

That is just so inspiring to me! I feel like I should get out there and do it too. I guess I just thought because I am older now than I was, that I couldn't do it anymore! Thanks for letting me know I can!! :)

You are such an inspiration to me too my friend. I used to walk and hike, loved it. Since the situation with my legs started, I have not walked for exercise because of the pain. Today I will take the cane and get going. I may not get very far, but I will surely give it a whirl. God bless you!

So glad to "hear" the joy in your "voice". You are helping to inspire me. I have a 5k challenge in September of 2012 with my sis and brother. He is ex Air Force and so in shape but has encouraged me through e mails and texting. I walk with my two dogs every other day to the mail box and down the "gas line" and back. Living in the woods has it perks but also draw backs. So the distance is about 2 miles round trip. I also use my treadmill daily, it is in my basement, so do stair climbing at the start and finish. At my heavist I weighed 230 pounds. I lost 100 of it only to have it creep back up. I started Atkins in May at 208. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK.
