Donna Mashburn's Journal, 23 September 2015

Well, I've been doing a reduced carb diet for over a month now and have lost 11 pounds. The first week or so was a shock to me, as I never thought I would have the will power to cut out sugar and sweets and baked goods and bread and......But after that first week, it did get easier. I still want something sweet almost daily, but I've found that it doesn't taste as good as it used to. Now, whether that is something physical or just guilt playing a part, I'm not sure. The thing I've missed most, I guess, is bread--a good sandwich. I've allowed myself one slice of whole wheat bread some mornings at breakfast, which I have thoroughly enjoyed! It tastes divine to me! But it takes a toll on the carb count. I am amazed when I read some of the entries and see how low the carb intakes are for some of you. I like my fruit with my cottage cheese and corn on cob with a meat off the grill. So, how low do the carbs need to go to get the benefit of reducing them, anyway? Eleven pounds lost is wonderful, I know, but I seem to have plateaued here. Should I wait it out here and see what happens over the next couple of weeks or try to make some adjustments to what I'm doing? I think I've amazed my husband and I know he's proud because I'm usually not one to "stick" with something for very long, but I've held pretty close to my "no white stuff" rule. He even coaches the restaurant staff when he helps with the ordering.
I think I'll try lowering my RDI to 1200 just as an added incentive, as I've been hitting pretty close to that anyway. (Visualization of numbers and percentages). The workouts are getting a little easier again, and I'm able to more fully participate. I'm trying to stick with doing a 30 min workout 3x/wk. I would like to do them more often, but I don't have time or energy on workdays after doing 12 and half hours at work. Getting enough sleep is still an issue on workdays with an avg of 4-5 hours.
I go to the doctor in a couple of weeks for blood work as he stopped my cholesterol med to see if, perhaps, it was causing me some abd pain. It will be interesting to see how the blood work reflects on my higher fat intake--I'm averaging 50% of my diet as fat, 30% carbs and 20% proteins.
Well, here's to keeping at it! Hope it keeps on working.....

I am a sugar addict! So I have decided I have to totally abstain. The cravings have pretty much left me, for which I am grateful! I had some fruit once in the past 2 months, no bread, pasta, rice, etc are all off limits at least for now. Keeping my net carbs under 20 per day.

That's way too high on carbs... carbs should be at 5-10% .. you are eating more carbs than protein and that will cause a stall. If you are eating more than 50 grams of carbs a day, that is not low carb, and even with that.. it is maintenance level and not as low as you need to reach keto. For keto, you need to eat below 20 grams per day. So probably all that you've lost is water weight and no real fat weight. Hence the stall.

I found low carb alternatives to bread. There is a low carb pita that's pretty good and there are low carb wraps. They also have low carb bread, you have to look to find one you like.

Google Oopsie Bread... it is a good alternative to eating bread and it is VERY low carb... I cannot do anything with wheat in it.. it causes me to have cravings and it spikes my BGL for up to 7 days until all of the wheat clears my system
