Okay. I think I've come to the conclusion that Atkins just isn't for me. I do like the way I feel physically when I'm eating low carb. Especially the fact that I don't have low blood sugar episodes. But I just have difficulty feeling like I'm getting any variety and it is too easy for me to get off track. In ketosis...out of ketosis...back into ketosis...back out, etc., etc. Like a yo yo. So right now I'm kinda in limbo. I'm trying to watch my portions and eat semi-healthy. In the meantime, I'll also be checking out some of the other "diet plans" and doing some research on what might work for me. But...I am by no means giving up on this!

Did you decide to stay on Atkins or try something new?

Honestly? I don't really know what I'm doing. I'm kinda in limbo. Atkins just didn't seem right for me - I constantly felt like something was missing. Ha! I guess it was the carbs that were missing. So now...well, I'm just trying to watch what I eat. Try to control my portions. And today I walked a mile, which was a major accomplishment. This may not be enough. I'm not sure. I know I am 30 lbs. heavier than I should be, but I don't feel like I've quite reached the point mentally where I can motivate myself the way I need to. The good news? October 6th I will be 7 months smoke free. :)

You might want to research the South Beach diet, which I understand to be a diet with more of the carbs you feel you are missing. I've also felt as you do - I want rice or potato with dinner, but "can't." My biggest problem is that I travel a lot for work, so it's not like I can make jicama fries or another substitute when on the road. So, sometimes I go off the wagon and have that rice with dinner. I then take it in stride that I've stopped "dieting" and have switched to a "maintenance" but well short of my goal weight.

Thanks for the advice. I actually have the South Beach diet book that someone recently loaned to me and I plan to check it out. It seems for me that one of my biggest problems is that I don't particularly like to cook and tend to go for things that are fast and easy... like peanut butter and jelly! :( Right now I'm trying to keep my calories in the 1200-1500 range. Today - oops - I hit 1800 (not good), but did walk for 1 mile with a "walk at home" dvd (good!) Tomorrow my goal is to drink more water.
