I am delighted to report that life has calmed down and is settling back to normal. My son continues to recover well, surviving his first week back at school with little pain, just some weariness. We have a peaceful weekend ahead, so he can rest up for next week. My daughter, never one to step aside and let the boy get all the attention, came down with a cold this week and has been extremely whiny about that. Thankfully, she was feeling better when she woke up today.

I popped out of bed early and the dog and I went for a nice walk around the neighborhood. After dropping the kids off at school, I headed for the gym. The machines tried to kill me today! I was barely able to emerge while I was still walking, but I was wiped out. How quickly I get out of practice when workouts get dropped to deal with more pressing issues. I pushed through and hopefully, things will be a bit easier next time.

I went to dinner with friends last night. I resisted the basket of corn bread and the onion rings my friend ordered for everyone to share. I had some BBQ pulled pork, which was awesome, and stuck with the grilled veggies for my side. I did wash it all down with a nice double IPA, but all in all, not a bad outing.

I got a new oven delivered this week. Apparently, when you run the self-cleaning cycle on a 20-year-old oven, the high temperatures can blow out all the sensors, rendering it useless. Since no one makes parts for that oven any longer, we found a new one we liked. I am hoping to roast up something wonderful this weekend. I may also make a carrot cake for my husband, as he has not had his favorite treat in a long time. We are visiting friends tonight, so we can bring it along to share (and maybe not bring so much back home with us!).

New appliance . . . those are always fun! If the occasional beer is part of long-term WOE, no harm -- especially having skipped the corn bread and onion rings!! Well done! Glad to hear your son continues to recover nicely -- your muscles/stamina will 'recover' as quickly (if not even faster), I'm sure. Enjoy your weekend!
