izzypup68's Journal, 30 August 2015

I am making a renewed push to get to the goal. I have had about a week in which I have slacked off on my eating plan and I just don't feel good about it. I recognized it, but I also just wanted the ease and comfort of restaurants making my food and the simple joy of having a drink with friends. I am not sure where the carrot cake fits in, but I am sure that fed my soul in some way...and certainly made my man happy!

I got up this morning and the dog and I headed to the mountains for a delightful 4-mile hike. It was cool and the views were beautiful. We saw a deer and a bunch of quail. It was a pleasant way to start my day. We did a lot of work around the house this weekend. Tonight, instead of giving in to the urge to go out for lunch or dinner, I have made meals at home. Right now, I have some chicken baking to eat with a spinach salad.

I have made a meal plan for the week and will do the prep work for that later. I have to stay committed to what has been working for me and carry it through into the home stretch. :)

So wish I were close enough to some mountains for a hike with my dog vs. a walk around the burbs . . . agree with WFN -- you're not going to NEVER go out to eat, drink with friends, bake your guy's favorite treats . . . just 'make it work' within your plan -- your progress is remarkable and your commitment to see it through those last 'tough' pounds helps me and others to 'stay the course'!

Life happens, just make allowances for it and keep moving forward. I've heard the 80/20 rule is a good one to use. 80% of the time follow your diet religiously and the other 20% is to allow yourself to enjoy your friends and eating out. If you want this to be permanent you need to find a balance.

A good word, balance. I will probably be at the lake the holiday weekend with friends and family. Almost guareenteed beer and fried catfish.

Yes - you are practically at your goal (1.2 pounds!) so you are starting to learn maintenance too. Congrats!

It's a nice feeling when you slip, realize that you're still way ahead of the game, and understand that you've escaped any chance of long-term failure. Happy to hear that you're back on track and that your goal is within reach.

Yes, I think it was just a little out of balance. I do not foresee a life without eating out and playing with friends. I just have been out of sync with my normal, healthy habits for nearly a week with first the hospital, then travel, then just general apathy. I just need to not let everything go at one time so that I can work around the indulgences. I have been thinking about maintenance recently. I have gotten pretty good at my weight loss, but this week of lax attention has made me really think about how I will keep the progress I have achieved. I know I can do it, I just have to keep mindful or I will end up right where I started.

Being mindful is what it is all about. You have been doing great Izzy.

Izzy, have something in your home that reminds you everyday where you started. I have my cane hanging on my main bathroom as a reminder that I no longer live with daily pain that plagued my old life. When I redo the bathroom, I will paint it so it matches instead of leaving it it's ugly brown. It pulls me back by reminding me to keep exercising and also to be mindful everyday so I do not go back to the old ways that slowly piled on the pounds.

Almost there. You are inspiring to those of us far from the goal. Reach it and set a new one!
