Well, starting tomorrow (after I get paid and go to the store) I'm going to try gluten-free bread. HALF the carbs! I love my bread, pasta, potatoes, and rice but all those carbs are what's undermining my calorie-watching. I know I need carbs for energy but not THAT many!!!

Good job finding lower carb foods, but don't be convinced that you need carbs for energy. Our bodies are capable of running on other sources of energy too, namely Lipids (fats) and Ketones. Some organs show that they operate more efficiently on fats instead of glucose. Our bodies also convert stored fat into glucose (carbs) for the small amount of carbs that we use. If we eat more then we can immediately use, and we don't need that much, it'll get stored as fat only to be removed and burned later. Congrats again though on finding lower-carb foods!

Not all gluten free breads are lower carb,in fact the ones made with rice flour are usually higher. Just something to be aware of.

I agree with Heimdall on carbs. Check out what this man as observed with his diabetes: http://www.meandmydiabetes.com/2011/04/14/steve-phinney-low-carb-preserves-glycogen-better-than-high-carb/
