That's it! I'm angry. There is no way on earth that I deserve the weight gain that I am experiencing. I have gained over twenty pounds in three months. Yes, I've indulged a little while away from home, but not this much. I've had the occasional piece of toast or potato, okay, even a few beer and ice cream cones, but my total caloric intake is rarely over 1800 calories per day. I eat a lot of vegetables and lean meats, don't drink regular soda (only diet), very very few process food products including condiments. I walk for at least an hour a day. Why is this happening?? I've had it! Why the F*&#K am I gaining so much weight? I know I'm in the throes of menopause, and I'm away from home (stress), but this is ridiculous. Sorry for the rant, but...

The good news is that I'm going home on Tuesday (a sixteen hour drive). We're only staying there for three weeks, then we're off again, but maybe I can do some damage control in the meantime. Sheesh.
204.5 lb Lost so far: 0 lb.    Still to go: 54.5 lb.    Diet followed poorly.

May I suggest you do some research on the evils of diet soda? In the opinion of many nutritional scientists, it is worse for you than regular soda-- makes you crave sugar because your taste buds sense sweetness and send a signal to your brain to produce insulin in order to process those sugars. When the sugars do not actually arrive in your system the body does two things: makes you crave sugar to make up the difference- which can mean you end up eating more carbs per meal, and second, sends your body the signal to store fat rather than burn sugars you have on-board. I find that if I limit myself to regular soda and other drinks, I end up drinking mostly water because I know that the calories are not worth it. Good luck to you

I have pasted a link to a TIME article on the subject below: http://content.time.com/time/health/article/0,8599,1711763,00.html

I agree the diet soda may cause you many issues overall. Keeps all the cravings alive. Fresh water will be best and you will get used to it and likely prefer it over time.

I'm sorry to hear your frustration , RenaissanceWoman. Do your best to use these feelings as motivation. Although your changing metabolism is going to be a challenge for you, I have faith that if you continue to focus on eating well and you add some extra exercise to your routine that you will regain control over your weight!

so sorry you're frustrated! i tried to take a peek at your food log, but you're not logging so it makes it difficult to offer suggestions but your profile says you're on Atkins. unfortunately, an occasional carb-cheat like toast, ice cream, potato, etc. can knock you out of ketosis for a few days up to a week! if your carb-cheats are happening, say, once a week, it's possible you haven't been in ketosis for quite a while, and that leads to weight gain very quickly (much of it water). Maybe getting back into Induction for a couple of weeks then starting without the "cheats" will help. good luck!!
