Good morning buddies! Whew, what a weekend!!
Clinicals went well, although very labor intensive. I spent six hours Friday making up drug cards and researching my pts. diagnosis. Then, Saturday morning I went in early to look up any new orders or new labs on my patient and what did I discover?? She was being discharged at ten a.m. I still had the opportunity to pass meds and provide morning care, but because my patient was leaving I was assigned a new patient to research... and do med cards on and that consumed my saturday evening. The evening I was supposed to have to relax with all of my paper work completed I spent doing new paperwork. *Sigh* And of course, my mom chose that evening of all evenings to come over for a visit. She understood that I had to get my prep work done or else I'd be up all night so she wasn't upset that I spent the evening in the house alone doing research. She actually bought me dinner so I wouldn't have to worry about it. Of course it was delicious mexican food, but that was my only splurge of the weekend. I was so overworked and in need of some serious calories, so it probably worked entirely to my benefit. In fact, when I plugged it into fatsecret I was still showing a substantial deficit.
I packed lunch both Saturday and Sunday, and kept my calorie intake in check both days. Sunday I didn't have anything planned to pack for lunch and for a brief moment at 4am on Sunday morning I thought to myself "You already ate that mexican food last night, just take your debit card and get whatever in the cafeteria." Then I quickly put that negativity away. One meal doesn't constitute failure. So I ended up packing some peanuts, a bologna sandwich and a yogurt. Not gourmet, but calorie controlled nonetheless.
Overwhelming is the word I would use to describe my weekend, but I made it through unscathed and I believe it was a success. I'm getting more comfortable with patient care, so I can only get better from here.
Steps. My goodness. On a normal day at home I have to make sure I get a long walk or some form of exercise in to make my ten thousand step goal. At the hospital I get ten thousand steps and a few flights of stairs just running around doing my job. This will be beneficial a year from now when I'm working as a nurse. According to my fitbit I got a 3000 cal burn on saturday and 2800 on Saturday, and I didn't even do any intentional exercise.
So now here we are at Monday, and I'm finally getting the opportunity to catch my breath and recover from the stressful weekend. I need to grocery shop, and figure out how I'm getting my exercise in today.... and I have an exam tomorrow that I need to start prepping for. It never ends! lol I guess I probably prefer the hustle, it allows less time for worrying about things because you're too busy doing.
Have a great day, buddies!
