BrandyRelaxing's Journal, 02 August 2011

Okay... so I'm starting to think too far in the future, which usually ends up causing me stress.

So my latest future worry is stretch marks and hanging skin. I was thinking that when people get pregnant they rub stuff on their tummy to prevent stretch marks. So I'm WAAAY beyond preventing stretch marks, but was thinking that maybe I should be working on helping my skin to repair itself so it keeps bouncing back.

I was looking at Bio-Oil, but basically their website says - Keep using it and it might help (but then again, that might just be under-marketing).

Has anyone tried anything that works? Thoughts on what I might try?

I also posted a forum question about this, but I know all of my FS buddies have awesome insight, and wanted to ask your opinions as well!

I know nothing, but I wanted to add I fear the same. Especially now that I'm knocking on 40's door, 3 pregnancies, and being morbidly obese for all these years. I'm sure I will want/need a tummy tuck (or extra skin removal, whatever it is called) when I get to that point.

I use bio-oil on my ear lobes for stretching/healing after stretching.. it works good.. I have never used it for stretch marks but I do know a few people who have used it and have seen results. I personally use coco butter... which is nice and thick and creamy... I am beyond preventing stretch marks however; if I can help keep my skin moist to retain SOME kind of elasticity I will do it lol.

Bio-Oil is good for preventing the stretch marks but there doesn't seem to be many OTC products to diminish the appearance/tighten the skin. Let me know if you come across some good info though. Strength training while you lose weight and moisturizing seem to be the best things you can do.

I was reading about Mederma, it seems to reduce the appearance... I don't know whether that means improve elasticity. I may have to hit Shoppers Drug Mart and talk to the Cosmetician there, they generally have some idea of what they're doing.

Mederma is recommended by doctors for scar reduction so it may work on stretchmarks too.
