Please help me. I'm finding that as the weather gets warmer I don't want to eat porridge when I get to work anymore. Does anyone have any good oaty flapjack type cerial nut bar type recipes? I'm thinking things like oats, sultanas, banana, nuts. Preferably little or no sugar content and if it has fat then good fats. I would appreciate any recipes that would make a good breakfast instead of my porridge. Thanks. Ps I always have a boiled egg too which I will continue. :-)

I don't have any good recipes. You will probably need something like honey or golden syrup to bind it together. If there is anything you could use that does not contain sugar, it probably costs a bit. I like to have strawberries or other fruit with yoghurt for breakfast in the summer. I usually sprinkle muesli over, but you could use porridge oats, to add some carbs.

what about yogurt with oats in it? I make my own yogurt. It's plain but I add flavor before I eat it. One of my faves is honey and almonds. But you could do quick oats or quinoa with fruit......

Because it's summer and it's warm outside, I think a healthy smoothie would be nice for breakfast :)

If you're open to lowcarb baking and like almonds, I like these "cinnamon rolls" - they're cute and filling. Making 8 comes to about 250cal per roll. http://alldayidreamaboutfood.com/2012/07/almond-flour-cinnamon-rolls-low-carb-and-gluten-free.html

A healthier version of traditional fruit and nut bars that are packed with seeds, oats and agave syrup - perfect for snacking and lunchboxes. Found this on BBC Good Food. Ingredients 150g ready to eat stoned dates 100g low fat spread 3tbsp agave syrup 50g dried apricots 50g chopped hazelnuts 3tbsp mixed seeds 150g porridge oats 50g raisins Directions 1.Heat the oven to 190C/170C fan/gas 5. Line an 18cm square tin with baking parchment. Put the dates into a food processor and process until they are finely chopped and sticking together in clumps. 2.Put the low-fat spread, agave syrup and dates into a saucepan and heat gently. Stir until the low-fat spread has melted and the dates are blended in. Add all the remaining ingredients to the pan and stir until well mixed. Spoon the mixture into the tin and spread level. 3.Bake in the oven for 15-20 mins until golden brown. Remove and cut into 12 pieces. Leave in the tin until cold. Store in an airtight container. per serving: kcalories: 190 protein: 4.4g carbs: 23.6g fat: 8.2g saturates: 1.3g fibre: 3.2g sugar: 15.8g salt: 0.1g Hope that helps

I posted on someone else's journal the other day and you may want to try it. It's still a cereal and not a bar though. Take a half cup of oats the night before and pour enough milk in to just barely cover. In the morning, sprinkle with cinnamon and add a tbsp of maple syrup. Stir and eat. No cooking. I love it.

Hi they all sound great. With all these suggestions I can have a different breakfast each day. Won't get as boring. I found a flapjack with no sugar but had banana and vanilla extract in for flavor. I added nuts and seeds to the recipe. Its really nice but the fat is too high in my opinion. I'm going to try dramatically reducing it and using coconut oil instead. I've never used coconut oil but people on here seem to rave over it so I will give it a go. I have a question, the original recipe has 80g veg oil in, if you wanted to replace with coconut oil how much would you use? Im going to try some of your suggestions this week. Looking forward to it, thanks. :-)

When I worked in an office I used to have like 5-8 cups (mugs) of tea/day, herbal teas like pepermint, linden chamomile etc., only with lemon juice (about 1 lemon/day), no sugar (but maybe some honey would be good). It's not a food suggestion, but you may try this too one day - it just gives the body other extra "good stuff" at "zero calories". ;) :)
