veteranOIF1's Journal, 31 March 2007

I have not been doing well at all. I've eaten pizza, candy, and tonight I had dinner at a friends. Okay, my husband is deploying soon, and it is stressful, and I know once he is gone it will be much easier to eat healthy because I will have way too much time on my hands... But I want to be able to stick to healthy food when he s home (which is my biggest problem!). I always lose weight when he is away, then he comes home and I plump back up. It isn't his fault, he is naturally thin and can eat anything and stay slim, so he doesn't worry about what he eats, and I normally eat what he eats.. bad cycle

Okay, Monday I am going again. Tomorrow I am going to go shopping and fill my kitchen with yummy, but healthy, food.

OK back in the "saddle" again.....It must be hard on you with your husband gone...then home again....good luck with your program and always keep a journal...it really helps.

I'm not a military wife, but I do remember that it was SO much easier to stay trim before I was married. I think it's because I was the only person I had to think about. I ate what I wanted, worked out when I wanted, and I didn't have to think about what anybody else wanted to eat. I was in control of everything without a responsibility to anyone else. Maybe it's a little like that for you when your husband is gone. Plus, when he comes home, it's kind of like a time to celebrate, which usually means eating. All you can do is focus on the task at hand and just do it. He (and you) will be so proud of your accomplishments next time he sees you. :-)

I've seen lots of people who can "eat whatever they want" start to plump up as they get older. If you can convince him that he's not missing anything, just keep cooking SBD foods when he is home. That way he stays healthy too, even if he doesn't need to lose weight.

You will probably find that after a few weeks of eating healthy, you won't ~want~ to go back to eating junk when your husband gets back. Hopefully if you keep eating healthy when he gets back it will eventually inspire him to eat better too. Not to mention, I've noticed that my body doesn't handle junk food very well anymore (after only a little over a month). Good luck!
