wintersmith's Journal, 06 July 2009

Due to the Holiday weekend I wasn't able to record weight. Since I only had a cell phone I wasn't really able to make journal entries either. That will teach me to make spur of the moment decisions about testing new diets.

Today is the last day of the 10 day trial. Looking at past weight loss performance I don't see any difference between my past performance and the recent performance. My weight went up and down as it usually does.

The conclusion I draw from this is that the Low-carb, high protein diet (i.e. Atkins) is not particularly maintainable whereas having a large breakfast to limit overall calories in the morning is.

This does hold to the truism that making a lifestyle change (like limiting total calories) is more maintainable than a crash diet in the long run. To give the study credit, I was not hungry in the morning before lunch and did very little snacking at that time. I imagine that had I had a very large lunch as well I would not have snacked before dinner, but that wasn't something I tested.
