Dinner last night was interesting. We went to a local fish place for our anniversary. I decided on rainbow trout which was topped with beet greens and peaches (I know, high carb, but in season!, and not a whole peach...worth it!), and replaced the rice side with sweet potato fries. Baked sweet potato would have been better, but it was not an option.

The trout was fabulous! Loved it. The fries, not so much. I make my own sweet potato fries in the oven, after tossing them in some coconut oil or palm kernel oil. The whole family adores them...and there are few foods I can say that about! The fries last night tasted of oil that was old or off. Just not great.

And,...after I finished my meal I was more hungry than I was when I began it! It made me feel the dramatic difference in satisfaction/satiety that I have when I cook at home, with plenty of good fats, versus eating out with who knows what. Both my husband and I woke this morning feeling gassy and bloated. I actually woke up about 5 with very sharp gas pains. Don't know what it was, but it was not pleasant!

Lesson learned, eat at home whenever I can! Having to avoid not just sugar and gluten, but also dairy, and eggs presents some challenges that I have not quite figured out yet for eating away from home. Eventually restaurants will change and adapt; some of them anyway. This restaurant did mark items on the menu as gluten or nut free. I came home and mixed up a batch of my "faux chocolate mousse" with avocado, cocoa and a mix of fats. It is fast, easy, delicious, and helped me feel satisfied!

Been researching a few recipes on line for fat bombs! Found a few I want to try out. Been getting a few new ingredients, like coconut butter. I guess it is just ground coconut, like peanut butter, almond butter, etc. May look into making my own in the future to save a few bucks. Hard to find, and not cheap!

Some of my favorite sites for recipes are nomnompaleo.com and grassfedgirl.com
Both sites have lots of pics, simple straightforward recipes. And the results match the promise! I am planning on buying Nom Nom Paleo's book, just to send her some love. Gotta support those who help us on our way. :-)

Awww, too bad the restaurant dinner was less than desirable. I hope the anniversary was sweet though...

Wow! Sorry you only were able to enjoy half of your dinner. But seeing the changes when we go back to foods we use to eat, the bloating and gas, etc. let's us know that our way of eating with the good fats is much better for us, especially when the fats make us feel full even though we did not eat a whole lot.

Dinner was great in that we got to go out and spend some time together. It has been a very difficult year, and that has rarely happened this year. It was nice that this was the best part of the night! Seems appropriate, given the celebration. :) And yes, C67241, I think that the information I got in terms of symptoms can be taken in a positive light. I learned or relearned, how my body does best!
