Had a Patient request to speak to my trainee last night, she proceeded to tell the nurse I was training that he should be grateful that he is being trained by me, she then went on to tell him what a great nurse she believes me to be and how lucky he is to have the opportunity, etc. Needless to say she made my eyes get a little misty(and that's a hard thing to do). This was one of those moments that you look back on when you start to feel that nursing is a thankless profession and you realize this is why you got into it in the first place. I love that I can make someone smile and laugh, they can cry on my shoulder, voice complaints to me, and trust me with their lives. Trust me to make sure that I will do everything in my power to get them healthy.
