I have been worrying for a while about my heart health, but not sure what I need to do about it. My mother in law told me that broken blood vessels in your cheeks and a crease in your left ear lobe are visual signs that your heart is not healthy. Which she has both and they have gotten worse since her triple by-pass and stroke. I have a crease in my left ear lobe and have had broken blood vessels in my cheeks since I was pregnant with my son eight years now. My husband and I are working on quitting smoking. We have lowered from reds to mediums, and I have cut back to a 1/4 to a 1/2 pack a day from a whole pack, and today we will go down to lights and then ultra lights if we haven't quit by then. I am going to get the patches as well. Can a bad heart be turned around before a heart attack or stroke happens? I truly hope so since I am not even 30 yet. I am going to call the health dept. to see if they do cholestrol checks. I haven't had my cholesterol checked in 7 years and it was high then. Wish me luck finding out info.

UPDATE: I call the number given to me earlier and have patches on the way to help me quit smoking, I am going to step down in nicotine and tar levels until they get here. But my quit date is May 17th. I am hoping to be over any mood swings by our June 3rd. trip to Columbia so we can have a wonderful weekend in our smoking room. There is a health screening at the vo-tech in May that I plan on checking out they do bone denisty testing as well. If they do not do cholesterol checks there are a few other options I have to see about free testing since we do not have insurance.

We got the horses moved to the stable which took most of the evening gathering all of their things and getting things settled in. Before we knew it, it was 830pm and we still had not eaten supper, so we went to Pizza Hut and I didn't eat any pizza, and I had water instead of indulging in a soda, I had a diet soda earlier today. I didn't feel deprived at all, I ate my salad and cheese stick and was stuffed. I had a pretty big salad compared to what I normally eat. I feel horrible about not getting to the gym today but I know if the weather is nice I will work it off this weekend with riding and taking care of the horses. I hope everyone had a wonderful Friday and a blessed weekend to come.

You should go to this web page and just read this short article. Light and medium cigarettes are misleading - years ago the govt cut back on full strength cigarettes as well - you tend to "pull" more on a light cigarette as well. If you quit at your age within 5 years you will have same stroke risk as a non-smoker and within 10 years you will have same heart attack risk as non-smoker. If you continue past 35 you will significantly affect your life expectancy. I'd get a check-up and try the patch right away. Talk to a doctor - it would be the best thing you and your husband could do for yourselves and each other - I quit in my 30's and I am so thankful now. I have a friend who didn't and it has really aged her - when you look at a picture of the two of us 10 years ago and today the difference in the aging appearance is pretty remarkable... You can do it!

I had quit about 10 years ago and then started back 5 years ago. It was a crazy stupid mistake but it was an honest mistake on my husband's part and stupidity on mine. We quit about 3 years ago for almost a month, but he kept quizzing me everyday on how much I had smoked while he was at work which was none. Then if he miscounted his pack that he had hid then he blamed me. I felt if I am going to be blamed and accussed I might as well do something to deserve it and I started back. I have decided this time if he wants to kill himself that's on him. I am not doing this to me or my kids any longer. We smoke outside as it is but they are around it if they come outside to talk to us. I want to be around for my kids and grandkids as long as possible.

I remember a short time back when I use to hide and smoke, it was a great feeling to quit-- I choose cold turkey and I wish you much luck. For me, each time I wanted to smoke ... I would whiten my teeth or give myself a home facial instead. Good luck.

Well I called this number someone had given me and they are going to send me the nicotine patches for 8 weeks. They should be here in like 2 weeks. My husband has been pushing me to quit because of prices going up, but he still smokes and chews, I don't understand it. Anyways it is something that has weighed heavy on my mind about my heart being weak. If I am going to change the way I eat, drink, think, and live to be healthier SMOKING has to go as well. Well wish me luck until they arive I am stepping down nicotine and tar levels as planned so my body doesn't have such a jolt when I am not inhaling that junk anymore. When I quit almost ten years ago, I was sick the whole first year after quitting because it threw my body into shock is the what the doctor's told me, I do not want that to happen again.
