Ritsy's Journal, 10 June 2014

I have managed to keep my weight constant and not go up. However, I do need to start to lose it again in order to reach my ultimate goal. My main issue is losing the fat around the tummy area. Any suggestions?
142.0 lb Lost so far: 20.5 lb.    Still to go: 9.7 lb.    Diet followed reasonably well.
losing 0.1 lb a week

hey Ritsy, you cant actually lose weight from one area more than others, it just depends where your body stores it. if you lose body fat in general it will eventually come off! hope that helps

Last year I started to get quite toned on my stomach (now starting to get back into it) I use one of my husband's plates from him dumbbells and hold it pressed on the top of my head (lying down in the "sit up position") and then crunch - don't go all the way up just go part way keeping your head looking at the ceiling, nice and slow focusing on the movement not the number. Start off with about 15 (they are hard) then work up adding 5 more each week or so. Also pull ups are fab for your stomach believe it or not - it's not just about losing the weight form that area just toning it and focusing your exercise on it :) Good luck - now I need to get back to following my own advice!

Eat more fish. Fish is low in "bad fat" and the fat it actually contains is good for you but only if you combine without sugar. Sugar and Fat combined = obesity. I should know because I was 20stone (126kg) Oct 2013 and am now 16.5stone (106kg) )fish for at least HALF the week. My liver consultant gave me some guidelines to follow and told me NOT to diet. She said to stay off red meat and limit fruit to 1 per day because of carbs. No idea if this helps. I blog if you want info just let me know.

MaximumSmash - yes, understood. I am losing overall (have lost one dress size) but somehow the belly fat is still there. Love handles are slowly going. Bodders - great idea. Will try and do that each day. My core muscles are quite strong I believe...so will be able to do the sit-ups. hopefully this will help focus on the fat. Mazchap - you are right. I love fish but just get too lazy to cook and eat. And its so easy to prepare. I am not dieting as such. Just trying not to eat after 6 pm - works well especially if I either go to the gym then or go for a long work. I will try and incorporate 3 days a week into my food plan :) BTW - well done for losing all that weight. Very impressive! :D

there is no diet or exercise that can burn the fat in one particulary area of your body. The belly fat aka "stubborn fat" is the last who goes when loosing weight. In order to loose it and be really toned you cave to combine some strenght training with cardio and a strict diet. Make sure you train properly, eat clean, and create a caloric deficit of 500 - 700 kcal/day. in a month youll see good results.

Hula Hooping is a massive help with my belly! Buy a weighted one off ebay for £20 and it will be the best thing you ever did! I do it for 15 minutes a day for the first week then 30 minutes the second and so on until I get up to an hour a day (but that's all relative to the time you want to spend) My friend does 15 minutes a day and she lost a lot of inches :) xx

Thanks. I am not actually dieting - I have liver disease and my "diet" is to keep alive. Losing weight is just a lucky side-effect! (p.s. I'm now 105.4kg) :)

I recently made a promise to an old friend of mine because I was moaning about how unfit I am and he runs 100k in 13hrs just for fun. So anyway - almost as soon as it came out of my mouth I regretted the promise... To do the basic RAF fitness test like when I was 18, (all those years ago). That is to complete 1.5miles in under 11 minutes. That calcs out to 0.22km/min on my treadmill. Cyrrently I am at 0.9km/min and can only do 0.5km. But my target is to do this before October when I am 50 years old. His motto (my very fit friend who I went to school with) is *Anyone Can Do Anything* -- I am starting to believe him.

That should read 0.09km/min

I'd say reduce your carbs and walk, ALOT!! Walking 10,000 steps aday (5 miles?) really really shrank my belly down, I was amazed. & so did learning to jog even more. I just downloaded the free Couch to 5k app on my phone and went to the park. Also eating under 120 grams of carbs aday & really helps.

One thing you've got to remember is that you can't pick and choose where you lose the fat from. Depending on your shape, your body chooses different places to lose fat from first and last. So just keep constant, and cardio is always great for fat burning! Like the others said, walking and running are two of the most efficient ways to lose fat by keeping to a calorie deficit :)

Walking.....I have started to do this. I am not fond of running. Hula hooping sounds fun. I too believe that 'Anyone can do anything', but you need to add on '...if they want to' at the end of the motto as that is the stumbling block for many. I will look at the app mentioned by EBIVR :)Great feedback & advise by all . Thank you.
