SELouisiana's Journal, 07 June 2014

So I've been a vegetarian for a while (little more than a month) now, and it's just because sometimes my body just doesn't crave meat -- so I listen to it. I realized I've organically done this throughout my life when I was fit/healthy weight before my weight gain. I think it's the reason I ate plants only during the first two months of my weightloss journey, and this is before I even knew the food documentaries existed (food inc, forks over knives, etc -- SO good). I always seemed to go back to meat though so I guess that's why I never paid attention to my unconcious food choices. Anywho, I'm still not craving meat/chicken (which is very surprising and the reason I took a moment to think analytically about my past) but I AM craving seafood now so I think I'm gonna take advatage of a seafood sale that's going on at the market. I'm just curious to see how long I will crave a pescatarian lifestyle. So yes, another 3 pounds down due to food lifestyle changes. My doctor told me I should not go lower than 150. I moved my upcoming yearly appointment a few weeks early to this coming Tuesday because I need to tell her about this lifestyle change and ask some additional (a million) questions. She is like the smartest doctor that I've ever known; smarter than my ex-husband and he is a genius doctor --sucked at husbandry but genius doctor lol. I'm 5'8" tall (doctor says I'm 5'9" -- I don't agree), and I need to get the run down on my height/weight situation -- she hasn't seen me in a year. I'm curious to see if she will agree with/support and encourage my food lifestyles that I'm seeming to adopt for lengthier periods of time now. OK, I've been delaying some work for a few days now....I guess I will get to it before I regret this relaxation time. #WorkingGirl #Peace&Love :D :D :D

Great job on your weight loss. If you're not already, I suggest working out, especially strength training/weightlifting, so that your weight loss isn't muscle. You could get protein from vegan protein shakes (soy protein is the right one, I believe) and Greek yogurt (the plain kind is the healthiest and has the most protein - just add your own toppings and zero-calorie sweetener). I'm sure you're aware of some of the other protein foods, such as beans, cheese, rice, oats, and nuts. If a vegetarian diet is natural for you, go with it. And tending to your cravings, such as for seafood, even if it's off your vegetarian diet, is good to do, because your body is telling you that it needs the nutrients that those foods provide. You probably already know all of this, but just in case... :) Good luck with your doctor's appointment. If you're eating enough to maintain your weight, to comply with your doctor's orders, and are not depriving yourself or feeling hungry, then that's all you should do. I don't suggest overeating just to maintain a higher weight. We all have different weights that are right for us. Good luck!

I am so proud of you and excited for you. Your doctor will be happy for you, I am sure. Keep your protein up with all those healthy meat alternatives. Blessings.

You are doing so well. I too think vegetarian (or almost-vegetarian) is the way to go. My daughters are both lacto/ovo vegetarians. I would be a vegetarian/pescatarian if I weren't such a lazy and bad cook. Today, I had a can of chicken noodle soup at lunch just because it's so easy. I really don't like meat at all and know that I feel better the more veggies I eat. The Morningstar Farm chipotle black bean burgers are great and my local Sam's Club has them. I'm feeling better and happier now that I've been (pretty much) back into eating right for a few days.

TheBake, you are so in my head abt the amt of info out there! Seriously, there's tons, and it can be overwhelming. I will check out the Vega line you mentioned. I find it helpful to buy my organic products online bc usually there are lots of customer product reviews...sometimes there are some really thorough reviewers. I will see if I can find some addtl info on that product that way too. Thanks a bunch!

Sw21204, you are so right....My digestive system certainly appreciates this lifestyle. Those Black Bean Burgers sound so yummy! I just LOVE beans so I may try that out. Thanks and keep up your hard work! :D
