GlennM's Journal, 25 March 2009

Well, things can ALWAYS be worse... that is how I have to look at things. I'm thin now. I saw my rheumatologist today. (Arthritis doctor). My arthritis now is also another severer form I don't even want to name to give it energy. So I have two kinds now, the other kind he had given me additionally before was simple osteoarthritis is no longer a diagnosis, the first kind I've had since age 19, so I'm kind of upset. So I was thinking last night to stay here in Massachusetts because of the dog. Now I definitely have to move to Hawaii even though it can be damp a bit because it is so warm. I think psychic-wise because of the pain I've been in for so long I knew I was going to have to move and now as I have a diagnosis I have no choice if I want to stay as healthy as long as possible. It is summer year round in Hawaii. The rain is brief in the summer, a few minutes and then rainbows. In the winter it might last a few days or longer but it still is warm. So I'm so grateful I've lost over fifty, sixty pounds or so since it has taken all that pressure off of my joints. I can't take NSAIDs because I have acid reflux now, so the doctor gave me a topical one. My friend who has a huge retirement pension constantly wants to go out to eat - I don't think he hardly ever eats at home, I told him I'm saving to move. Plus it is hard to save money eating Atkins friendly meals that don't cost a fortune after a very short while. So here I go... definitely am moving now, no choice in the matter any longer as today's diagnosis makes it imperative I move. Family is here, but they're non-existent in my life except my twin sister and my aunt who is a nun... :)

I know how you feel I stay in Glasgow Scotland Were the temp is lucky to reach 10degrees at this time of year (our summer is only about 17degrees)the dampness is awful for my arthritis .I also have Fybromyalgia and a few other things dont want to bore you .I'm now 48yrs and i have had this since my twenties i am married with two daughters and a gorgeous new grandaughter.i find it very painful to hold her but i still do it.when i'm holding her the pain eases for a while. i really have to lose some weight as it doesnt help being heavy.i had done the atkins before and lost 50lbs a few years ago .I think that would be a great idea moving to Hawaii My late aunt stayed there she loved it she moved around all the islands well i hope your pain eases with the good weather.

Twins that are boy/girl can only be fraternal as they have to be from different eggs as they're different sexes. The mother produces two eggs, interestingly my dad has a fraternal twin sister who is a nun. To aurora - I'm leaning toward Arizona now, I'm superstitious about astrology and do believe in God but know too much about advanced astrology and it would take hours to explain but moving to Hawaii isn't a good idea until I'm in my mid 50s or so for health reasons astrology-wise, so then I will go there. I'll move to Arizona within the next couple of years, hopefully I'll be published soon. Any warm weather is better than cold wintry weather for arthritis...

I didn't know that! What's your book about?

Hi cokezero - three books written - almost done with the final draft (after so many rewrites of the first) a colonial frontier novel. It's currently 599 pages on the computer, how many in a book that would be depends on the print I guess. The second book I finished I am rewriting a bit too and am adding a female Native American to it; it is set in the 1600s in the Northeast US and Canada and starts in France, and is a bit on the spiritual side, it is about 300 pages. Next is a wagon train western set in 1850, it starts in my hometown, and a few other places too. It is historically inaccurate in places so demands intensive rewriting. So much researching with all this history it takes so much time! Next will be sci-fi short stories, thank goodness I can stop that endless researching. (Thank goodness for the Internet - it is so easy to look up lots of stuff though I did get some awesome books to help me). I'm writing a fantasy series after that probably and then a modern spiritual book set in Alaska - so hopefully by then I'll have the money to go up there to research it, I did stop there briefly on the way back from the Philippines. So as you can see writing IS my life and whenever I do get published there will be more than one book waiting in the wings...

Dang, Glenn. You're really dipping in a lot of genres. I bet historical fiction is really very hard, but it makes for some interesting stories. Does the one with the Native American woman have fur traders in it? How does it get all the way up to France?

I don't want to give to much away, but it starts in France with a priest who travels to the New World. There are people in it who really existed and some who are fictional (not real). The western also is about 600 pages. No fur traders, they tended to be up more in the further reaches of Canada at the time and aren't an important part of the story as I've written as of now...
