Any thoughts for me? I found myself driving home from work at 7:45 tonight, and wasn't sure to do about the 800 calories that I hadn't eaten yet. I hate to stuff that much in right before bed, so I came home and had a lighter (566 calories), mostly protein and avocado meal at around 8:30pm. I had known it would be a hectic day, so I had a bag full of snacks with me, but I'd had barely had time for them since lunch. Do you think I did the right thing, or should I have just skipped it altogether. I thought I'd just have a bite, but once I started putting things in the bowl, I couldn't really stop, because I really was starving. At least I didn't buy anything for myself as I ordered at the drive-through for my husband and kids (who all metabolize like cheetahs). - Mel

P.S. Ooh, another + for today: Someone brought fantastic fancy looking cupcakes to a late afternoon meeting and I didn't rationalize myself into eating any!!! Wow, it was like a really different me sitting there saying, "No thanks," and REALLY meaning it! Thanks to all of you who are here supporting me... I heard your little voices in my head!

You did the right thing. If you look at this as a lifestyle change instead of a "diet" it might make it easier for you. I vowed never to starve, but to feel satisfied and good about the choices I make. We need to feed our bodies with healthy stuff to have them function in tip-top shape. This may take some time to change our bad habits into good ones. Great job passing up the cupcake! Hang in there and keep raising the bar for us! I also wanted to ask if your family was generally eating the same foods as you? I guess I'm fortunate my husband is doing this with me. When we eat together at night we all eat the same healthy foods. I feel a little better knowing my kids are getting some veggies and whole grains at least once per day. My oldest son has lost a few pounds because of it.

Hey - So, the thing that made me feel kind of weird last night, and has happened to me a few times, is that I end up not really feeling hungry, but not having eaten enough food. One thing is that in my house we've almost always eaten dinner at around 8:30 or 9:00, and I know that that can slow my weight loss (not to mention delay bedtime for everyone), so my goals have changed, but I haven't changed my lifestyle accordingly. I guess my new big goal will be to have dinner on the table by 6 when possible, to shift my eating habits. Also, I am going to try to get my fiber earlier in the day instead of feeling like I need to cram myself with carbs right before bed to get enough fiber. A snack of mainly protein before bed isn't really a big problem. Anyway, as I hinted in my journal, my husband and son are in a really different boat than me. Basically, my goal weight and my husband's are opposites. He wants to gain the same amount that I want to lose. Sometimes it's hard living in a house where someone WANTS to gain weight, but I've been doing it for so long, that it actually feels pretty natural to sit on the couch with them while they scarf cookies, and I don't feel too bad about it. I try to feed them healthier options when I can, in terms of snacks. As for meals, since I'm the cook and I'm not a short-order chef, they basically get whatever's on my menu plus something else (like rice, potatoes, a different kind of salad dressing, etc.)
