Johanne's Journal, 03 February 2011

It's gorgeous outside. It's brutally cold outside. I'm inside, enjoying the view out my windows. My weigh-in this morning was such a pleasant surprise. I lost. I would have sworn I would gain after the fight I had with cravings for a few days leading up to the blizzard. It just goes to prove that the monthly calorie average is more important than the day to day slips. As long as you stay on track MOST of the time, you're OK. I'm, thankfully, back to my normal appetite. Right now, I'm craving coffee. I don't buy decaf, so, at 3:35 in the afternoon? . . . not such a good idea. I'm actually three weeks ahead of my weight loss schedule, so that makes me happy. :-)

Woohoo Jo!! You are right its the monthly intake that means a whole lot more than the day to day oops factor. Keep it up!

It really is Bren and it's all your fault. Yours and my other good FS buddies. The fact that you support me and make me accountable keeps me on track through the worst of my "wantas". Love!!!

Thanks Pixi. Isn't it great to know we can fudge it once in a while and still succeed? That's what is making this doable, knowing you don't have to deprive yourself ALL of the time. Hugs!!!

EXACTLY!! the deprivation factor is what killed me that last 140 million times I did this. Now I eat what I want, when I want but in moderation and I never feel like poo about it either. ~hugs~

Thanks Kate. I watched "Heavy" yesterday (I had TIVO-ed it) and they lost 100 lbs. in six months. It made me wonder if I should try to speed this up. As usual, FS came to the rescue and made me realize, I don't have the professionals and facilities those people have. Since I don't have that kind of professional support and monitoring, this is the safer way to go.

It would be nice if we could all go to "fat camp" like on those shows. Where doctors would watch our every move to ensure we don't drop dead! But even then, I still think it may be better in the long run to do this slowly. Most of what I have read suggests that loose skin is most often a problem with rapid weight loss. Not to mention fun things like malnutrition and hair loss. I'd rather take slow and permanent, but that's just me. Still, I do like Heavy. Did you like it?

I do like it. I've watched each one. Unlike some other shows on weight loss, this one takes the time to teach them the proper way to go about it, including nutritional education and they follow up. I also like the way they pair people for support. It's kind of what happens here on FS. I know that's the main reason I'm succeeding . . . the advice and support I get on here. Many of my buddies are already at goal or well on their way, so I know their advice is sound. I even understand Atkins better and why it works for some, like Steph, who is sensitive to so many foods that are a staple in my diet. I couldn't do Atkins, but I've seen enough people make a success of it and a real life change, that I no longer question my buddies who do it in a serious and healthy way. How's THAT for expanding your mind?

I'm not quite there, Johanne... because I've read too much about the negative health implications I can't reconcile... but I have definitely adopted more of a "don't ask don't tell" attitude about it because if it works for somebody else that's their business and I assume they have reconciled those things for themselves :) But if someone starts pushing a crazy starvation diet... I'm all over that lol! I like the pairing also and I think it's really true how important it is to find some kind of support structure, whether it's online or in "real life".
