Hubby's out of town for a couple of days. Always presents challenges...

Challenge 1) Not eating a balanced diet... I tend to eat snack foods, cereal, and junk in general.

Challenge 2) Evening boredom + not being able to get to sleep. In the past, I'd have a couple of glasses of wine to kill the boredom (and make me sleepy). Trying to live sans wine for the next couple of weeks, and know that either way, having a couple glasses of wine out of boredom/don't want to go to bed isn't the smartest/healthiest choice I can make.

It's about 8:30, and I'm bored/snacky. Just trying to be "smart" about my snacking choices.

Hi! Evenings are the hardest for me, too! Some of it's boredom, some of it's like old habits - always eat something after dinner. It's irritating! And I LOVE my wine, as you can probably tell by my moniker...lol... I might go a couple of weeks without wine, too. Seems it's more difficult to drop weight when I have some. sigh... wine should NOT have calories! That said, I do think there's a place in our diets for a nice glass. My problem is sticking to one glass when the wine is exceptional. Good luck!

Thanks - yes red wine is my favorite. And - the kicker is that we own a wine bar (and cigar shop)... The tastes/half glasses of wine really add up for me. And yes - there is a place for it. I just have to a.) find out where that place is and b.) remind myself that it's a place for 4-6 glasses/week as opposed to 12-15. (Boy do I sound like a lush!)

Wine is good and I can't imagine the temptation of having right there, but you can resist!

Thanks, gusjodi! Once I put my mind to it (and see results), it's not too horribly hard... it's all part of re-learning about EVERYTHING in moderation. And even though I miss having a nightly glass of wine to unwind, I feel better and am generally happier without it. (Plus, when I finally do have a small glass of wine - it's going to be SOOO good!)

I can be a boredom eater...if there's nothing to do, maybe I should have a snack to occupy myself! Not really the best plan of attack. *sigh* Or, I have this habit of needing a snack if I'm sitting down to read a book. I've been doing it since I was a kid. Any book, any snack. The snack can be a nice apple, or maybe a grapefruit, but it can just as easily be a bowl of buttery popcorn or a bag of chips. I'm working my way away from the reading = snacking habit, but it is hard. And, strange as it sounds, playing video games means no boredom eating! I'm totally addicted to Okami on the Wii! One afternoon, I played for almost three hours and didn't have one nasty (or otherwise!) snack!
