1-14-11

We are having a strange winter. Now the temps have warmed up into the 40's and those of you who live in snow country know what that means ... one gigantic MESS!!! Nothing like a nice big dump of snow and then warmer temps and rain to make everything perfect!! LOL!!! I think rain is in the forecast through early next week. At least it means the house is warmer.

I have done okay this week so far, except for my excessive snacking night on Wednesday. Yes I know hummus is not "bad" but a whole container of it is too much. Yes I know pretzels are not "bad" either but I ate as many as it took to eat a whole container of hummus!! LOL!!! Truly, I could have done worse. I could have eaten candy bars, ice-cream, and who knows what else I might have scrounged up. No food is "bad." Some are more nutritious than others. Some are certainly more calorie dense than others. But ... I really try to stay away from thinking about foods as "good" or "bad" for me ... it is a trap for me.

I am impatient. The pounds certainly didn't come on over night and they won't disappear over night either. I know that. What is more important is my acceptance of the never-ending journey. My embracing that a gain of a few pounds doesn't equal failure. My ongoing practice of being kind to myself, emotionally, intellectually, physically, spiritually.

It has been a strange fall/winter for me and for many other of my buddies here. I know I am not the only one who has been struggling. I do not want to give up on myself and I don't want my other dear buddies to give up on themselves either. Staying here, even when the numbers on the scale are not budging much is important. Some of you teach me that. I see your persistence and it helps me.

I have weighed almost everyday this week. I have exercised everyday except Monday when I was giving my back one more day of rest. I measured my snacks last night and counted them instead of pretending if I didn't write it down I didn't really eat it!!

Duty calls!! My desk still looks like a tornado hit it. I hope to catch up a little today. I have only one visit scheduled so that gives me some office time. Be good to yourselves.

Oh yes ... a big CONGRATULATIONS to my buddy cindyshine for THREE YEARS here on fatsecret and maintaining her weight loss!!! YEA Cindy!!!

Almost forgot my grateful list ... actually I did forget but then read sarahsmum's journal and she reminded me!!!

1. grateful for the decrease of hot flashes ... I hope it lasts!!
2. grateful for a three day weekend
3. grateful for being able to drive up our slick, icy driveway this morning
4. grateful for "catch-up" time in the office
5. grateful for sleep

Strange winter here too! I also noticed how many buddies had a tough holiday season. There were more than a few who disappeared and came back heavier. But, there are more than a few over the years who never came back at all. Yet. I suppose you never know :). Sounds like you are coming out of the darkness and it is good to hear.

Carol, it has been strange here in Missouri also...colder than normal, more snow than normal, and now they are forecasting snow and ice for the beginning of next week...just strange, more like the winters that we had back in the '70's early '80's. (hmmm, that make me sound lioke an old timer, lol) I have been struggling also...not losing anything has definately put me into an emotional funk, but I am not giing up or giving in. I will win this battle and ultimately the war that I have been fighting for nearly 40 years. Glad to hear you sounding better. Be grateful for Carol, I am! And I am so glad that your hot flashes are getting fewer and farther apart.

Yes it has been a strange winter and lots of us are struggling with lots of issues.lol But we are still here and still doing it and still hoping to see results...lol Somedays it is a lot of work isn't it? We wonder why we are bothering..why does it matter but it matters to us and we will keep trying on this journey until we get it right!!! Have a great weekend Carol. Hopefully I will catch you online one of these evenings!!!+

Sounds like I'm the only one not to have a strange winter... Cold, snow, blizzard, Chinook, everything is as usual. Carol you taught me to accept and love myself (really, I was a "self-love handicaped" before reading your journals) so I hope you do practice what you preach lol because it works! Hope you have a great relaxing weekend!

Hi Carol, glad that you remembered your grateful list. Some days I struggle to think of more than one or two things, which is crazy cause I have so much to be grateful thankful for. You do sound much more like yourself. I smiled at you saying that if you don`t write it down, it doesn`t count. How true we all think like that and how false it is. You have had one good week now. I too try not to label food as good or bad, its all about choice and consequence. Eat the food, accept the consequence. Its hard being an adult sometimes - lol. So grateful that you are here. Hope you enjoy your week-end.
