JKL2012's Journal, 21 January 2014

The increase on the scales should not be a surprise, but it still stings. I haven't followed Paleo with anything resembling discipline since early November while I was in Winnipeg, and I also didn't remotely take my own good advice from my last entry and strive towards maintenance during the holidays. C'est la vie.

Now I am in the midst of interview season and the urge to cheat out of convenience, hunger, or stress is heightened once again. I am beginning to question if I am perpetually caught in the "special occasion" mentality of dieting, wherein I justify bad decisions on the basis of partaking in a special occasion of some sort. It seems to me that every freakin day is some kind of special occasion that tempts me to meander off the path of paleo.

Anyways, I took the god damn measurements and some god awful "in my underwear" pictures to boot, and it is not quite as bad as when I started but a far cry from the progress I had made by Aug 2013. It is so silly to make excuse after excuse and dislike what you see in the mirror. A lot of life progress will happen in 2014, and this physical evolution will be no exception. I will weigh and measure in at the beginning of each month for regular updates and to keep me on point.

As much as I think it will be difficult, I am going to completely simplify things by just doing PaleoBurn by the book. It is too slippery a slope to think I can cheat on the weekends and make any progress. The weekends turn to thurs + mon, which extends and extends until I'm basically eating what I want and feeling bad about myself. The thing I miss 2nd most about being disciplined with Paleo (I miss liking the way I look the most) is never feeling guilty about what I eat. That was so liberating, it alone could motivate me if I gave it the chance.

To keeping it simple!
1. Cheating on Sunday exclusively. Other than that, squeaky clean paleo :D
2. Drink lots and lots of water. Always be drinking. Hungry? Drink water and reassess hunger.
3. Alcohol? Red wine or vodka soda with lime ONLY
4. Get Greg on board --> you need him to be invested to to help with temptation and cheating urges.
5. Working out is February's problem. For January and interviews, just drink lots of water, eat lots of meat and vegetables, and drink vodka sodas at the socials. Oh yah, and NAIL those interviews!!!
