MrsTofu's Journal, 06 December 2010

I am learning that a lot of things that I wouldn't suspect have a great deal of sugar, such as bananas and 1% milk. 1 whole banana has 16ish g of sugar. 1 cup of 1% milk has 12g of sugar. I know already that oranges and other citrus are definitely loaded with sugar. That is hard for me because temptation is staring me in the face from my dining room fruit basket; beautiful, boxed clementines, shiny red apples, ripe yellow bananas, and sweet mangoes. I love fruit and I've never been big on artificially flavored fruit style candy. I love chocolate, but we don't buy chocolate candy so it's usually not in the house. (My Nestle semisweet chocolate morsels don't tempt me because after a few of them, my mouth has that syrupy-sweet dryness (usually things that have a lot of HFCS will produce that response)that is uncomfortable. However fresh fruit, now that's ambrosia to me. I know they aren't necessarily bad because the sugars are not processed sugars. (That makes a HUGE difference because the body is designed to handle natural sugars more efficiently, artificial or processed ones tend to shock and overload the system.) Also fruit offers vitamins, minerals, and fiber. Yet with food the key is moderation and fruit especially is my Achille's heel. However, I have NOT given in so far. WOOOO!

I did know that fruit does have a lot of sugar in it. However, if I am not mistaken, there is a difference between the natural sugar in food and the added sugar. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.
