Went to the doctors on Monday. I was stressed out because of having to be stuck, because I was 6 pounds heavier than my last visit, and because my blood pressure had went up two days before. When she took the reading it was still high. I like this doctor because whenever the first reading is high she always have you to lay down and relax for a few minutes. She also said that she wuld draw the blood for the labs before she took the second reading as she felt that anxiety over being stuck could be why my pressure was up. I thought it would just make me crazier. She drew the blood. We waited. The first reading was 137/86. When we took the second reading it was 125/76. Crazy. She was happy. I was relieved. No new meds. Just an evaluation after 6 months. Now some doctors may have gone with the first reading and just prescribed more drugs. The other thing I liked was on my first visit to her about a year and a half ago my choleterol was up. She caled me and told me the numbers. She said that she did not like to prescribe medications for that. Initialy she liked to try an over the counter niacin supplement which usually worked and was cheaper. If that worked that would be all we need to do. I started taking the niacin gradually increasing my does to control the flushing effect. It worked. 6 months later my numbers were better than normal. It's nice to have a doctor who doesn't just read symptoms and prescribes drugs but really takes the time to make sure of what's going on before making a decision.
