Rowanfair's Journal, 23 October 2010

Made lamb stew in the crock pot with a leg of lamb, six roma tomatoes, a head of cauliflower and one red bell pepper with a base of beef stock. It is definitely comfort food. It is so hard to log complex combos though. I am weighing the meat and then guessing on the veg. Oh well. It is warm and yummy and we had the first rains of the winter yesterday so it seemed appropriate.

I totally went crazy on cheese at my full moon gathering. I had gotten a French brie, a Cowgirl Creamery Mt Tam and a nice sharp cheddar. The Mt Tam was my weakness. OMG that cheese is soooo creamy and nutty flavoured and just melted in my mouth. And half a round is sitting in my fridge flirting at me from afar. Oh well, I least I'm wired to crave cheese and not sweets or something. LOL

Showing my friends the range of motion in my shoulder last night, I seem to have done something awful to it. And one of the side effects of the antibiotic I'm taking heightened possibility of joint and tendon tears. I admit I am terrified (and in a world of pain). Good thing my plan for the weekend is to sleep and recover so I can go to work on Monday.

Glad that the lamb stew was good! I love it when hubby makes it for me when I am ill. It jsut makes me feel better. I have been craving cheese like crzy lately, and am not sure why. Maybe the time of year. Now, I have tired toremember what happened to your shoulder, and then went back through your journal entries to see if I had missed something, but I cannot find it, so I will ask...what did you do to your shoulder?

A year ago I had an operation on my shoulder to remove a bone spur. It hasn't healed very well and I will probably never be able to belly dance again (at least using "tribal arms"). Raising my right hand like to ask a question is painful. But I had felt that my recent extended bed rest had made a difference. And I raised my hand to show someone I could get it up... and something happened inside. This morning I woke up in agony. I took some pain meds and muscle relaxants but because one of the antibiotic Avelox side effects warnings was joint/tendon vulnerability..... wah! If I have banjaxed my shoulder again just as it was getting well I will cry.

Oh, no Rowan!! I am soo sorry. I fell and broke the ball off the arm bone and shoved it through the socket in the shoulder, when I was about 33. There was no surgery, no casting, just a sling that attached to my body by velcro, to immobilize it. It was soooo painful. The trip to the hosital, was like a cartoon, I actually saw stars! No lie! But my doctor told me that the best therapy for range of motion is to stand next to a wall (out side of shoulder toward the wall), place the flat of my hand on the wall and do circles forward and backward. Just lift it as far as I could to start and continue trying until I could go all the way around both clockwise and counter clockwise. Believe it or not, it worked, and my range of motion is the same as the uninjured shoulder. Don't know if that would help you, but thought I would toss it out there. Take care, and of course, don't try this until you stop hurting, but perhaps it will help you be able to belly dance again. I will say some prayers for you

Sorry about your shoulder. Your stew sounds wonderful. Belly dance - I haven't done that in years but when I did I loved it. Only went to classes mind you, never did it for anyone, but I loved it.
