So with an IUD do you think you still get the symptoms of TOM?

I had one of those and I got heavy periods and in the end it fell out so never again for me!!!! some people find them good and it can stop symptoms altogether but I was one of the unlucky ones!

From all I've read, with IUD, you should still have all normal monthly symptoms. Plus, usually heavier and more painful periods.

Bates, yes, because PMS is caused by the hormonal changes. The only thing that an IUD does is stop the implantation of any fertilized eggs. So all the same thing that happen without the IUD also happen with one. Ovulation, PMS, TOM, and cramps and as barbie and mccmad pointed the cramps and flow may even be worse than without the IUD.

Some of the newer IUD's have hormones and with those you might not get TOM at all - YMMV. It would be similar to taking the pill every day and not taking the week off.

Wow. Krista, I didn't know that. Why would they put hormones in the iud, when you can just take the pill? Interesting!

yea, on the IUD my periods got worse and worse until I had to have it removed. Then I went on the depo shots (like a mini pill) weight gain is a side effect, the good news is I had no period for years, but all the symptoms continued, acne, headache, backache, cramps, water retention
