I am trying to loose weight again... Damn genetics and prescription medication. I am currently about 208, and I need to be down to at least 130.
My cholesterol is very high and I have n/a fatty liver disease. The only way to help my liver is to get the weight off. Cholesterol will probably improve too with diet. I first need to get the right foods in the house. lol.
I'm not feeling to well right now. I have been having a hard time with my emotions. My best dog ever passed away on October 29. I'm still reeling from that. My husband is out of town and I am having a bit of a hard time with that as well. Depression is one of the worst things for me and I am trying to overcome that today.
Time to get some fiber and minerals in my system. I have to find foods that have anti-inflammatory properties and have magnesium and vitamin B and D.
Did I mention that I hate vegetables?

If you hate vegetables and should be eating more for your health you could always cook them, mash them up or put them in a food processor all together and add them to a homemade vegetable broth. You won't even taste them!

Ditto to what Keyton77 said. Look at food as your way to better health.

ORshelly, you might consider the keto WOE. It has been shown in recent research to help treat fatty liver, reduce inflammation and bad cholesterol. Check out the research at: blog.VirtaHealth.com. I have been using their ideas for 2.5 years, and have reversed my type 2 diabetes and lost 50 lbs.

Are you really attributing your weight issue to genetics and medication or are you in denial as to the types of foods and the amounts you eat. Tracking your food intake is a real eye opener for many who truly do not understand what a healthier food portion is. Fatty liver and high cholesterol are very serious medical issues and not conducive to a long healthy life. Some great role models here on FS. You can do this IF YOU WANT TO. No excuses

You don’t have to necessarily like vegetables, you just have to decide to eat them. Most people who don’t like vegetables have never experimented with various cooking methods, such as roasting, that enhance the natural flavors and sweetness. Also learn to use herbs and spices. Way different than mom’s boiled or nuked mushy stuff.

Start listening and watching videos on NutritionFacts.org - all non-profit by Dr. Greger. Also read his books 'how not to die' and 'how not to diet'. It will change your thinking. It has already worked for me. I feel great and my blood panel numbers are going down!! Good Luck. Also look up on videos depression - a lot is food based on his site.

I concur with Kenna once being a heavy drinker I know what a fatty liver damage does.

Hey, ORShelly, it's easy to get discouraged about weight and health issues. You just have to grit your teeth and tackle them. I used to give up on exercise b/c I never got that 'runner's high' that was supposed to make you crave exercise. I finally read that about 10% of the population doesn't respond to exercise that way, so knowing that, I knew I had to exercise for health reasons, as much as I disliked it. I've lost my first 20 lbs and it feels good. Tracking what I eat has been super important, too, especially entering it before I eat which often makes me make adjustments. You may not be ready to get another dog, but it's great having one for getting out on walks. Hang in there.

I really appreciate all of the awesome comments! I actually know that my weight is not just meds or genetics. I do have a problem with grabbing sweet stuff if I am really in a mood and I have to really watch myself with that. I am really just starting over. Great advice on making broth. I know also that I can include in baked goods and casseroles. I may use the blender and do a lot of smoothies. I am not opposed to eating some veggies in raw form. It's crazy that for me, my biggest issue is forgetfulness. I have to make lists and remember to use them for everything! I have to do a very detailed list. I am in the process of finding and utilizing a meal plan. I think that is really good for me. "eat this at this time" and then that way I don't have to try to figure out what to eat and when. That will be good until I create the actual habits that are more healthy.

Hi Shelly, I totally understand where you’re coming from. I know we don’t know each other I’m new to FS. But I completely relate to what you’re feeling. I’ve had emotions like yours for a while now. And believe it or not just being on this app alone and monitoring what I’m doing for myself, has improved my mind quite a bit. I’m sorry for your loss. And you’re right it can get lonely if your husband love ones are not around. But I am happy to see, that you are turning the focus on getting healthier. I realize that doing something for me, has uplifted my mood in a Great way I am here for you, and so is everybody else on this FS family. The support that I’ve gotten on this app, has made a huge difference in my life, and I hope it does the same for you. And if you are depressed, that can be a very difficult thing to fight off without support. All I can sayIs fight on you’ve got this. And I don’t know if you feel like this or not but I think you are due for a new puppy. The new puppy will help you get outside and do things for yourself as well. Just an idea that came in my head. Happy new year to you and a healthy one as well. Hang in there you’re not alone.
